Chapter 106
What exactly was Laura up to? Cameron furrowed his brows.
"Cameron, do you have something to do? If so, it's alright. I'll go by myself," Dakota said, sounding disappointed.
"No I'm just a bit puzzled," Cameron said, snapping out of his thoughts.
"Yeah, I find it strange too. Why would Ms. Jones suddenly reach out to me?" Dakota pursed her lips. She knew Laura was an outstanding person. Why would she notice her and ask for a meeting?
"Where are you now?" Cameron asked.
"I'm at home."
"Alright, I'll come over."
"It's embarrassing to ask you to accompany me, and then have you come over too. Just wait where you are. I'll drive over now," Dakota said joyfully. She immediately felt less nervous with Cameron accompanying her.
"Okay," Cameron agreed.
"Then I'll hang up and leave. I'll be there in about twenty minutes."
Dakota hung up and excitedly put on her shoes before leaving the house.
Cameron sighed after hanging up. His gaze flickered with uncertainty. He had no idea how Laura knew Dakota. They had never met, right? Could it be because she saw Dakota at the airport? That seemed highly likely!
"What does this woman want?" Cameron gritted his teeth. He tried to text Laura but found she had blocked him. Forget it. He would ask her later.
Cameron waited for Dakota on the couch, unsure what to expect when he met Laura. He had previously told Dakota he didn't know Laura.
Well, it was a blessing in disguise. He couldn't let Dakota go alone. Laura contacting Dakota for a private meeting couldn't be just about a collaboration. He wasn't worried Laura would harm Dakota, but that she might bring up their past relationship. That's why he was risking exposure of his previous lie by accompanying Dakota.
Meanwhile, Lena headed straight for the archive room after returning to the military region.
"Colonel Bailey!" Soldiers passing by saluted.
Lena nodded and quickened her pace, her mind filled with thoughts of Cameron.
Upon arriving at the archive room, she immediately turned on the computer and entered Cameron's personal information. She intended to access his files to see what was going on. However, the monitor displayed: "No results found!"
"How could this be?" Lena's gaze shook. There were only two possibilities: Cameron had entered the country illegally, or his information was classified and hidden. Neither was acceptable. The former implied significant issues; the latter suggested his identity was extremely complex. Earlier, she would have believed the first possibility, but now she leaned toward the second.
Lena took a deep breath. She decided to get some answers from Cameron himself.
