Chapter 107
Forty minutes later, Dakota drove into the Caesar Hotel parking lot in her BMW 320i.
"We're here, Cameron," Dakota said softly.
Cameron's gaze flickered. They had arrived so quickly?
"Cameron, are you okay?" Dakota asked, concerned by his preoccupied demeanor during the drive.
"I'm fine. Let's go," Cameron said, smiling at Dakota.
He exited the car and headed toward the hotel. Dakota furrowed her brow slightly. She sensed he was troubled but couldn't guess what was bothering him. She decided to ask after meeting Laura.
Hurriedly catching up, they stopped just short of the hotel entrance. They saw Madison and Archie, each carrying a sandalwood box, presumably containing valuables.
Cameron frowned. Could Laura have invited them?
As he speculated, Archie and Madison turned and saw them. Archie was surprised to see Cameron. Shouldn't this guy be at the police station? he thought. Sergeant David must have bungled things! However, that was no longer important. He'd learned Laura was staying there and wanted to present their gifts before anyone else to impress her.
"Are you also here to present gifts to Ms. Jones?" Archie asked, his eyes wary. He wouldn't let anyone steal this opportunity.
"Present gifts?" Cameron frowned, realizing they were trying to curry favor with Laura.
"Dear, do you even need to ask? Of course, they're here to please Ms. Jones. Those two have sharp noses," Madison sneered. "Unfortunately, you've missed your chance. Ms. Jones has already chosen me."
"Chosen you?" Cameron looked surprised.
"That's right!" Madison said arrogantly. "Right after you left the airport, Ms. Jones came up to me and called my name. She said she remembered me. It's unfortunate you missed it!"
"Are you sure she didn't mean something else?" Cameron chuckled coldly, noting Madison's self-satisfied expression.
"What do you mean?" Madison frowned.
"Could you have misunderstood Ms. Jones' intentions?" Cameron asked.
"Misunderstood?" Madison muttered, then realized. "You're jealous! You're jealous I've gained Ms. Jones' favor!"
"Believe what you want," Cameron said indifferently. He was only interested in seeing Laura with Dakota.
"Hmph, keep pretending," Madison sneered.
Cameron ignored her, turning to Dakota. "Dakota, did Laura say where to meet?"
"No, she said to call when we arrived," Dakota shook her head.
"Then call her," Cameron said, taking a deep breath.
Dakota dialed Laura's number. Her polite, slightly nervous voice rang out. "Ms. Jones I'm at the hotel entrance."
"Good, come up to the 21st floor. I'll have the attendant wait at the elevator."
Laura smiled, about to hang up, when Madison interrupted. "Oh, quite the act! Calling Ms. Jones? Dakota, you and Cameron are good actors. Birds of a feather"
Cameron?
Laura, on the other end, was shocked. Cameron was there too?
"Ms. Jennings, please wait. I'll come down."
Laura didn't want to miss seeing Cameron. She quickly changed into heels and took the elevator downstairs.
(Note: I removed the promotional text. I also changed "3201" to "320i" as it's a more likely model designation for a BMW.)
