Chapter 109
Laura had arrived! The crowd's hearts skipped a beat. Dakota nervously clasped her hands. Archie and Madison, after a brief moment of surprise, showed delight in their eyes. Laura personally came downstairs to meet them, knowing they were waiting.
"What's all the commotion?" Peggy approached, displeasure etched on her face. "And you, why are you here?" She looked at Cameron, her brows furrowed in disgust. This annoying guy hadn't left?
Peggy's attitude surprised Archie and Madison. Did she know him? They soon understood; Cameron must have offended her previously. Otherwise, why such treatment? Cameron and Dakota were clearly acting.
Archie and Madison sneered inwardly, mocking Cameron. They eagerly awaited his humiliation. Cameron, however, cared little for them or Peggy. His concern lay solely with Laura's reason for seeking Dakota.
Unaware of Cameron and Laura's relationship, Dakota, seeing Peggy's hostility, timidly asked, "Ms. Lee, um… did Cameron offend you?"
Peggy felt a surge of anger. She wanted to recount Cameron's numerous offenses but, remembering Laura's earlier words, held back. "I just feel your quarreling affected Ms. Jones's mood."
"I'm sorry, Ms. Lee…" Dakota apologized, her heart trembling.
Madison, however, enjoyed the spectacle and sought to escalate it. Seizing what she perceived as Laura's favor, she loudly exclaimed, "Ms. Lee, Ms. Jones, he's the one causing a scene! He was even shouting—"
"Madison, how could you falsely accuse Cameron like this!" Dakota cried, anxious.
"Falsely accuse him?" Madison smirked. "I'm speaking the truth!"
Laura regarded Madison with a chilly gaze after hearing her malicious words. Believing Laura sided with her, Madison continued, "Ms. Jones, every word is true! Cameron is my ex-husband. For five years, he leeched off me. I couldn't bear it, so we divorced. But even after, he harassed me, even getting involved with my best friend—this woman!" She pointed at Dakota.
Dakota's face paled; she wanted to explain.
"Go on," Laura's voice cut through the air.
"Yes, Ms. Jones!" Emboldened, Madison continued, "I don't know when they started, but I tolerated it! My tolerance only encouraged their audacity. Learning we were here to see you, they came to disrupt us! They claimed you invited them, pretending to call you. But you came to see me and my boyfriend. When I spoke up, Cameron called me arrogant and delusional! We argued, leading to the scene you witnessed."
Madison portrayed herself as the victim, expecting Laura's support. Laura's expression did grow colder. Dakota's heart trembled; Madison's eyes gleamed. Just as Madison anticipated Laura's action against the "adulterous couple," Laura's next words stunned her.
"So, what's wrong with him saying you're arrogant and living in a fantasy world?"
