Chapter 132
Peggy was terrified. She didn't want to die. Her outburst had been merely an emotional release; she wanted to live, to experience the beautiful life that lay before her.
"Shut up, you're so annoying!" Jeff roared at Peggy's shrill cries, his already foul mood escalating into a rage. Startled, Peggy fell silent, paralyzed by fear.
"Isn't it a bit ungentlemanly to yell at a woman like that?" Cameron interjected, his gaze cool and steady on Jeff.
A flash of darkness crossed Jeff's eyes.
"You've already shown you don't care about her life. Why do you care about how I treat her?"
"Whether she lives or dies is one thing. Whether you're a gentleman or not is another," Cameron replied evenly.
"Are you toying with me?" Jeff's expression darkened further as he sensed mockery in Cameron's words.
"Heh. You caught me," Cameron said lightly. His casual demeanor further infuriated Jeff.
"You insolent fool, do you think you have the upper hand here?" Jeff spat. His eyes blazed with murderous intent.
"Um, yes?" Cameron responded scornfully. He planned to provoke Jeff, exploiting his emotional outburst to subdue him. He could have ended the matter from this distance, but he needed information.
"Don't underestimate me!" Jeff roared, his anger reaching its peak.
"Sorry, but I do look down on you," Cameron continued his provocation.
"Are you trying to anger me?" Despite his rage, Jeff's experience in dangerous situations prevented him from being easily goaded.
"Do I need to?" Cameron's contempt was palpable.
Jeff clenched his fists, his body shaking uncontrollably.
"Fine. You've succeeded in angering me. Now, you'll pay with your life!" Jeff lunged at Cameron with lightning speed. Cameron smiled faintly. Jeff had taken the bait. Without Peggy as a shield, Cameron was free to act.
Jeff's swift attack brought him face to face with Cameron, who remained unflinching. Jeff sneered at Cameron's lack of reaction, assuming him to be all talk.
"Die!" he bellowed, aiming a vicious kick at Cameron's neck. "Repent in hell for your insolence!"
Peggy closed her eyes in terror, unable to watch. Though she resented Cameron's earlier inaction, she didn't wish him dead; she hoped he would survive.
A muffled thud filled the air, silencing everything. Peggy's heart leaped, imagining a gruesome scene. Trembling, she bravely opened her eyes, stunned by what she saw.
