Chapter 165

It was dark when Cameron returned to his villa. After showering, he lay on the bed, intending to rest. However, his thoughts kept returning to the events at the waterfront with Laura. He looked at his palm, sensing her lingering fragrance.

"Cameron Morgan, what's going on with you?" he murmured. He'd vowed to forget and never forgive Laura, believing he'd moved on. Yet, he was still affected by her. Seeing her sprained ankle and pleading look had softened him; he'd even forgiven her in his heart, wondering if she'd faced difficulties.

"Laura, are you hiding something from me?" he murmured. He wanted calm, but his mood fluctuated, especially when he recalled her intimate gestures. Memories of their time together seven years earlier flooded back.

He remembered their first meeting. He wasn't yet the world's richest man or a leader in global military and political circles. His mentor, Terence McGee, had assigned him to protect Laura.

Their first encounter was at Leving Airport. She wore a simple white short-sleeved shirt, light blue jeans, and her hair was loose. Cameron was instantly captivated, particularly by her eyes—cold and clear, like an icy lake. He sensed a chilling aura around her. Even her presence seemed to lower the temperature.

She was only eighteen, yet words like "noble" and "elegant" felt insufficient. He, engrossed in training, was unkempt in faded sportswear. Laura disliked him intensely, questioning why her family had assigned such a person as her bodyguard for overseas projects. She felt embarrassed; his youthful, casual appearance didn't suggest a battle expert, but rather a charlatan. Nonetheless, she reluctantly accepted him under her family's insistence.

They departed Leving on a private jet. Laura avoided him, requesting he sit on the opposite side of the aisle. Cameron didn't object. He'd encountered many beautiful women—princesses and heiresses—who'd professed their love, but he'd refused them all. Laura possessed a unique oriental beauty, aligning with his aesthetic preferences, yet he wasn't obsessed with beauty.

They remained silent throughout the journey, even sharing a car with him driving. She stared out the window. Their silence continued until they reached the Arazonia River and the rainforest depths.
