Chapter 17
The next morning, Cameron went to the Caesar Hotel early, hoping to see Laura. However, the security guard informed him that Laura and Peggy had gone to the waterfront.
Cameron was intrigued. He hadn't expected Laura to take the matter so seriously. This further convinced him that the incident seven years ago held more significance than he'd realized. He had to find Laura and get some answers.
Half an hour later, Cameron arrived at the waterfront parking lot. Because of an upcoming celebration, the entire waterfront area was sealed off. Security personnel, specifically appointed by Laura, maintained order outside the venue. Only a few select individuals were allowed entry. Naturally, Cameron was one of them.
As he approached the entrance, he ran into Archie, Madison, and their family.
Believing Laura was holding the celebration for them, Archie and Madison had been excitedly tossing and turning all night. They arrived early that morning, eager to see the venue setup, but could only watch from outside because they lacked access. Their excitement, however, was palpable. Madison constantly took photos with her phone and boasted about it on social media.
Cameron proceeded directly to the waterfront entrance. His arrival immediately caught the attention of Archie, Madison, and their family. Madison frowned in disgust. "Cameron, why do I see you everywhere? Are you stalking me or something?"
Cameron ignored her. His only concern was meeting Laura.
"Hey! Are you deaf? I'm talking to you!" Madison chided, blocking his path.
"Move aside. You're in my way," Cameron said calmly.
"In my way? Ha! Do you even know where you are?" Madison scoffed.
"The waterfront. What about it?" Cameron replied, unfazed.
"Just get lost!" Madison snapped. Then, a mocking smile crossed her face. "Oh, right, you probably don't know yet. The waterfront's sealed off. Only Ms. Jones and the construction crew are allowed in!"
She boasted, "Let me tell you something else. Ms. Jones reserved the entire waterfront for a celebration in five days. It's for me and Archie!"
"For you?" Cameron raised an eyebrow.
"That's right!" Madison lifted her chin proudly.
"If you're mentally ill, you should see a doctor. Don't block my path," Cameron said impatiently. He was certain she was delusional.
"Who are you calling sick!" Madison exploded.
"Madison, don't stoop to his level. He's just jealous," Pla intervened smugly.
"Mom, you're right!" Madison agreed. "He's already this jealous knowing Ms. Jones is celebrating for us. Imagine how jealous he'll be when he finds out Ms. Jones plans to choose between Archie and me to be her representative in Yrando in five days!" She emphasized her words, intending for Cameron to hear clearly.
Cameron shook his head, unwilling to waste more time. He bypassed them and headed for the entrance.
"You can't reason with him!" Madison muttered under her breath as she watched him go.
