Chapter 172
Madison crossed her arms, waiting for Cameron's embarrassment. Pia smirked derisively. Cameron, however, reached the waterfront entrance and smoothly entered, disappearing from their view.
"What?" Madison was dumbfounded. Archie and the others, equally shocked, refused to believe it.
"Let's go ask!" Madison impulsively decided.
Taking a deep breath, she approached the security guard. She couldn't believe Cameron had been allowed entry.
"Excuse me, did someone just enter?" she asked.
"Is that any of your concern?" the guard responded indifferently.
"Um, I I know him. Why was he allowed in?" Madison persisted.
"Why so many questions?" the guard snapped, too lazy to entertain her queries. He'd been eyeing Madison and her family suspiciously—they'd been loitering and taking photos. Furthermore, he was astonished by their audacity in confronting Cameron, one of Laura's special guests.
"Hey! What's with that attitude towards my daughter? Complain to Ms. Jones, I will!" Pia intervened, seeing Madison being treated poorly.
"Go ahead!" the guard retorted, his voice growing stern.
"You don't know it yet, but Ms. Jones personally chose my daughter and son-in-law! They're the stars of the celebration in five days!" Pia boasted proudly. "Show some respect, or you'll regret it!"
"Are you out of your mind?" Anger flashed in the guard's eyes. "If you cause any more trouble, don't blame us!"
The guard knew Cameron, the real star, had just entered. Laura's special instructions made it clear. He wondered how these people could be the ones Laura would host a banquet for.
"Whatever you plan to do, do it!" Unaware of the situation, Pia rolled up her sleeves, ready for a confrontation.
"Damn you!" The furious guard reached for his baton.
Pia backed down, seeing his seriousness.
"Mom, let it go," Madison intervened. "Ms. Jones hasn't announced the selections yet. They don't know. It's not worth it."
"Hmph, I'll remember their faces. Wait till after the celebration!" Pia huffed.
"Now get lost!" the guard's tone was menacing.
Pia left indignantly, believing discretion was the better part of valor. She couldn't understand why the seemingly worthless Cameron was allowed inside.
"Madison, what's going on?" Pia was confused.
Being turned away left Madison suffocated. Frustration flashed in her eyes.
"Mom, what else could it be? He must be working on the construction site!" she retorted. "Piggybacking on their job! Strutting around like he's something!"
"That loser, that's all he's good for!"
"Ah, so he's working construction." Pia felt relieved.
"What else could it be? He won't be Ms. Jones's representative, right?" Madison scoffed, believing she'd seen through Cameron's facade.
