Chapter 194
Meanwhile, Cameron lay in his hospital room, unaware of Laura's feelings. The doctor had just changed his bandages and stitches. He gazed out the window at the deep blue sky, his thoughts drifting.
Lena re-entered the room after the doctor left. "Colonel Bailey, you're still here?"
Cameron was surprised. "What, am I not welcomed?"
Lena raised an eyebrow. "Of course you are."
Cameron smiled. "I'm just curious. I've usually been a thorn in your side, yet you've watched over me all day. Aren't you tired of it?"
"How could I not be tired!" Lena pursed her lips. "You really get on my nerves, Cameron! But seeing you injured like this and abandoned by Laura, I genuinely feel sorry for you. I was afraid you might do something stupid, so I stayed to keep an eye on you. After all, who will I settle the score with if you die?"
"Colonel Bailey, do you have to curse me like that?" Cameron smiled wryly.
"Hmph, it's because you're so despicable!" Lena glared at him. "Colonel Bailey, you truly hold grudges. Besides, the incident last time wasn't entirely my fault…"
Cameron, frustrated, explained that during the interrogation he'd admitted to slapping Lena impulsively, but he'd been driven to the brink because she'd almost shot him.
"Quit bringing that up!" Lena gritted her teeth. She felt like drawing her gun whenever the subject arose. "Colonel Bailey, I'm a patient now!"
Cameron quickly gestured to his bandages. "I'll let you off the hook for today. But once you've recovered, I'll settle the score with you!"
Lena huffed coldly. "Colonel Bailey, you're a heroine. You wouldn't hold such a petty grudge against me, would you?"
Cameron attempted flattery. "Don't you know that women are the most vengeful creatures in the world?"
Lena raised an eyebrow.
"But you're a heroine!" Cameron exclaimed.
"Even so, I'm still a woman, and women hold grudges," Lena said firmly.
Cameron's mouth twitched. He seemed to have provoked her.
As he contemplated how to persuade Lena, she glanced out the window and murmured, "Strange, why are those people still lingering outside the hospital? Are they waiting for someone important to be discharged?"
"Hmm?" Cameron's eyes flickered. He considered another possibility and was about to get up when Lena intervened. "Hey, you better lie down obediently. You've just had your stitches done!"
"It's okay, Colonel Bailey. I'm quite resilient." Cameron grinned, indicating he was fine.
"I don't know what to do with you," Lena shook her head. "Let me help you up."
Chapter 1 (This seems out of place. Is this the beginning of a new chapter or a continuation of the same one?)
Thanks, Colonel Bailey.
Cameron smiled. Lena's expression wasn't friendly, but her movements were surprisingly gentle as she helped him up. Cameron noticed this and smiled warmly.
With Lena's assistance, he reached the window. He spotted a crowd of people in black suits standing outside. The leader, tall and imposing in a black coat and hat, was particularly noticeable.
Lord Blackheart? Cameron's eyes widened. It was as he suspected.
