Chapter 198

Dakota felt uneasy. She wondered if Cameron's confession was prompted by plans to leave Yrando.

"What's wrong, Dakota?" Cameron seemed to sense her unease.

"Well Cameron, are you telling me all this because you're planning to leave Yrando for Leving to accompany Ms. Jones?" Dakota hesitated, then bravely asked, wanting to know his reasons.

"Go to Leving to accompany Ms. Jones?" Cameron was surprised. He quickly understood and chuckled, shaking his head. "No, I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying in Yrando."

"Really?" Dakota's excitement was evident, but realizing her overreaction, she blushed. "I just think it's good for you to stay in Yrando," she hurried to explain.

"Yeah," Cameron replied.

Dakota nodded slightly, her eyes shimmering with a hint of tremor. A quiet fell between them.

"Um, Cameron Are you hungry?" Dakota quickly changed the subject, wanting to avoid further awkwardness, especially after her earlier display of excitement.

"Now that you mention it, I am feeling hungry," Cameron chuckled awkwardly, admitting his stomach was rumbling.

"I'll head to the cafeteria and get you some porridge," Dakota offered.

"Great, I want a big bowl!" Cameron grinned. Dakota giggled. She'd never seen him so eager for food before; he needed to replenish his energy after being unconscious for so long.

"Wait for me," Dakota said before leaving the hospital room.

Shortly after, a young nurse changed Cameron's IV drip. Replacing the drip bag, she commented, "Mr. Morgan, you're fortunate. First, there was Colonel Bailey, and now that sweet girl. Even Dr. Smith seems pretty interested in you."

Cameron's mouth twitched involuntarily at the mention of Tara, whose actions had required him to have his wound restitched.

"Mr. Morgan, please don't doubt what I'm saying," the nurse continued. "I can tell Colonel Bailey cares about you a lot, and the young lady just now was very concerned. Oh, and there's another young lady who's also very fond of you!"

"Another young lady?" Cameron was puzzled, assuming only three people, including Tara, had visited. He wondered who else it could be.

"That's right," the nurse nodded. "I saw her downstairs when I was changing medication for other patients."

"Did you see her? Who was it?" Cameron's curiosity was piqued.

"It was Ms. Jones!" the nurse exclaimed excitedly, idolizing Laura.

Cameron sat up straight at the name. Hadn't she left after sending him to the emergency room? What was going on?

The nurse, noting his puzzled expression, continued, "You might not know this, but I saw Ms. Jones standing alone in a corner, quietly crying. She only left reluctantly when a secretary approached."

"Mr. Morgan, you're really lucky to have Ms. Jones cry for you," the nurse continued excitedly. "She's famous for being cold and aloof. To have her cry for you"

A shiver ran down Cameron's spine at the thought of Laura secretly crying. He became so lost in thought that he didn't hear the rest of what the nurse said. He realized Laura hadn't left immediately after the emergency room and pondered the reason for her lingering.
