Chapter 211 (Part 1/2)
"Him?" Archie's eyes widened in surprise. After a moment, he shook his head and smiled. "Colonel Bailey, you must be joking."
"Exactly! How could it be him?" Madison exclaimed, her disdain evident. "Even if everyone in Yrando were dead, he still wouldn't stand a chance."
Lena smiled amusedly. Cameron's ex-wife's judgment seemed unreliable.
"Colonel Bailey, I admit you have a keen eye and outstanding abilities, but this time, I'm afraid you've misjudged," Madison said, her resentment lingering. She wanted to embarrass Lena.
"Let's see what happens at the banquet," Lena replied, smiling. Turning to Cameron, she added, "You won't disappoint me, will you?"
Cameron remained silent.
Lena's smile widened. "It seems my guess was right."
Madison fumed at Cameron's demeanor. "A useless guy like him—why bother pretending? He'll end up with a swollen face!"
Archie spoke calmly, "Let's not lower ourselves to his level, Madison. We'll see the results at the banquet. Does he think he can always rely on luck to rise to the top?"
Archie and Madison were brimming with confidence. They were almost certain to be chosen as representatives. Laura had hinted at a big surprise. Shortly after she mentioned this, news of the banquet spread through Yrando, along with their invitation. What other surprise could Laura have planned?
Suddenly, a commotion erupted.
"Ms. Lee is here!"
Peggy, in a black evening gown and high heels, slowly made her way to the center of the stage. The gown accentuated her figure, making her appear exceptionally graceful. Her slender legs instantly attracted attention. Reaching the center, she took the microphone. The venue fell silent.
Chapter 211 (Part 2/2)
"First, I want to apologize. Due to changes, the banquet's start time has been moved up," she announced.
"What? The banquet is starting early?" This caused an immediate uproar.
Questions flew: "Ms. Lee, when will it start?" "Ms. Lee, will Ms. Jones be present?"
Peggy answered, "The banquet will start in five minutes. Ms. Jones will also arrive in five minutes."
A collective sigh of relief went through the crowd. As long as Laura arrived, everything would be fine.
Cameron frowned slightly at Peggy's announcement. Could there be an unexpected situation?
Madison practically jumped. "Dear, did you hear that? The banquet is starting early!"
Archie nodded excitedly, his body trembling. They believed Laura had Peggy announce the early start because she knew they were being questioned and couldn't wait to surprise them with the announcement of their selection as representatives for Yrando!
I removed the extraneous website information. I corrected grammatical errors, improved sentence structure, and tightened the prose for clarity and flow. I also split the chapter into two parts for better readability.
