Chapter 248

“Heh” Mikel’s lips trembled, his facial muscles twitching slightly.

“Mr. Kennedy, you should apologize to Cameron for what you just said,” Tara said, her gaze cold as she looked at him.

“Apologize? I’ve already made myself clear, Dr. Smith,” Mikel scoffed. “That man used external forces to stimulate your grandfather’s awakening from his coma. That could lead to countless complications.”

“And what about your misdiagnosis of my grandfather? How do you explain that?” Tara’s gaze intensified, meeting Mikel’s unrepentant stare.

“Mistakes happen in any profession, even yours. And as a doctor in this hospital, you should know the rules about unauthorized individuals in the ICU. What if he introduced bacteria into the ward? What about future patients?” Mikel retorted dismissively.

“You!” Tara’s face paled with fury. Mikel’s blatant disregard for responsibility enraged her. Saving her grandfather’s life was her priority; the risk of bacteria was minimal—the ward’s UV lamps were sufficient. Mikel was being deliberately obstructive.

“So, Dr. Smith, be more careful next time,” Mikel said condescendingly.

“You have no shame!” Tara exclaimed.

“Shameless? Am I wrong? Can you guarantee he isn’t carrying a pathogen?” Mikel challenged.

“I can!”

“How?”

“Because he’s my boyfriend, and we’re together every day!” Tara declared, boldly linking her arm through Cameron’s.

Cameron was startled by her declaration, a shiver running through him as her chest brushed his arm. Her figure, usually concealed by her lab coat, was strikingly impressive.

“Your boyfriend?” Mikel’s astonishment was mirrored by the other doctors and nurses outside the ward. Tara’s aversion to men was well-known.

“Yes!” Tara’s satisfaction was evident as she met Mikel’s stunned gaze.

The tension was palpable. Mikel’s jealousy was simmering. He’d never seen Tara act this way, fueling his belief that she’d been deceitful.

“Heh, she’s just a…” Mikel muttered, a cold laugh escaping him.

“What did you say?” Tara’s eyebrows rose sharply.

“I said, Dr. Smith, you’re two-faced. You act aloof and disdainful of men, yet you sneak around with them.” Mikel’s tone was icy. “Therefore, I’m removing you from the upcoming heart surgeries. Dr. Lambert will take over.”

“Are you jeopardizing patients’ lives, Mr. Kennedy?” Tara’s eyes narrowed.

“Heart surgery isn’t exclusive to you,” Mikel scoffed.

“But I understand the patients’ conditions better than Dr. Lambert!” Tara argued.

“I doubt that,” Mikel dismissed her. “You’re not in the right state to perform these surgeries. Take a few days off with your grandfather.”

“I disagree!” Tara refused to yield.

“I’m the department head. My decision is final,” Mikel stated authoritatively.

“You!” Tara’s lip trembled, close to bleeding from being bitten so hard. It wasn’t the surgeries that angered her, but Mikel’s willingness to compromise patient care for personal vendetta. Changing surgeons was a serious risk.

The other doctors watched uncomfortably, afraid to intervene. Mikel’s power was absolute.

“Dr. Smith, don’t get upset over him. Let me handle this,” Cameron said reassuringly, approaching Mikel. Tara watched, uncertain of his intentions.

“What are you doing?” Mikel asked suspiciously, furrowing his brows as Cameron, significantly taller, approached.

“Just this…” Cameron’s voice trailed off. He punched Mikel in the chest, collapsing him to the ground.

“I’ve simply been displeased with you for some time,” Cameron stated calmly, then turned to Tara with a slight smile. “Dr. Smith, no need to reason with a thug. Problem solved, wouldn’t you say?”
