Cameron's swift action surprised everyone. A moment ago, Mikel was full of vigor; the next, he lay motionless on the floor. It was, admittedly, a satisfying sight.

Tara's gaze flickered. She hadn't expected Cameron to knock Mikel unconscious. While moved by his actions, she worried for Cameron.

"Cameron, he's not dead, is he?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.

"No, he's just passed out," Cameron reassured her with a faint smile.

Tara breathed a sigh of relief. "Cameron, you should leave before he wakes up. He'll cause trouble!"

"Trouble? Don't worry, Dr. Smith. Someone will handle this. You won't be seeing him in the hospital again," Cameron said calmly, his smile unfazed.

"Someone will handle it? You have connections?" Tara asked, surprised.

"I'm representing Ms. Jones in Yrando," Cameron casually explained, though he planned to have Lord Blackheart handle Mikel. He wanted no further entanglements with Laura.

Tara's eyes sparkled. "I didn't realize I'd struck gold! It seems I've found a rare gem!"

Cameron felt uneasy under her gaze. "Dr. Smith, I have things to attend to. I'll send the prescription later," he said, picking up the medicinal herbs and quickly leaving the ward. He feared Tara might want to keep him for further "research."

Tara watched his hurried departure, puzzled by his reaction. She wondered if she seemed intimidating. She soon realized the reason for his haste, and a knowing smile curved her lips. After telling Dylan she'd be right back, she swiftly followed Cameron.

"Tara, my dear girl," Dylan watched her retreating figure with warmth. This was the first time he'd seen her so concerned about a man. He felt Cameron might cure her aversion to men.

"Hey, Cameron, wait for me!" Tara called, catching up with him at the hospital entrance.

Cameron hadn't expected her to follow. He stopped, turning around with a slightly awkward smile. "Dr. Smith, why are you here? Shouldn't you be with your grandfather?"

"You're so fast. Am I that scary?" Tara panted, playfully rolling her eyes.

"A friend is hurt. I need to take care of her," Cameron explained. It was partly his friend, partly to avoid Tara's persistent curiosity.

"Your girlfriend?" Tara's eyes gleamed.

Cameron didn't deny it.

"Looks like I don't stand a chance. But I don't mind a polygamous arrangement," Tara said mischievously, looking up at him. "We've already had intimate contact. You wouldn't go back on your word, handsome?"
