Chapter 262

"Are you okay, Cameron?" Tara asked, concerned as she looked at the emotionally turbulent Cameron inside the car.

"I'm fine," Cameron replied, taking a deep breath.

"Do you know Mr. Zimmer?" Tara asked, unable to suppress her concern. Cameron's current state hardly seemed to support his claim.

"I don't know him," Cameron said, barely containing his anger.

"You don't know him? Then what are you doing here?" Tara asked, puzzled and worried.

At that moment, a hostess in a red dress approached and knocked on the car window. "I'm sorry, this is private property. You can't park here." The hostess knew that the banquet's attendees were wealthy or noble, driving cars worth over a million. Tara's Mercedes-Benz C-Class clearly didn't fit the profile.

"Private property?" Cameron's eyes grew colder.

Tara rolled down the window. "I'm sorry," she apologized, "we'll leave immediately." Then, whispering to Cameron, she added, "You must have the wrong place. This is Max Zimmer's private villa. Let's leave quickly."

"This is my home," Cameron stated, stepping out of the car. His voice was so soft that Tara barely heard him.

"Cameron, what did you just say?" she asked.

However, Cameron was already walking toward Max Zimmer's villa.

"Cameron, come back! You can't go in without an invitation!" Tara called anxiously. But Cameron didn't look back.

"Sir, you can't enter without an invitation!" the hostess tried to stop him, but Cameron's murderous gaze froze her in place. She quickly spoke into her microphone, "A young man is trying to enter the villa. Stop him!"

Cameron heard her, but continued his ascent up the stairs toward the villa's main entrance. Images from his eleventh birthday—the first time his mother brought him to Yrando and this house—flooded his mind. It was the happiest, and last, birthday of his life. He remembered his mother's words:

"Do you like this house, Cameron? When you grow up, if you ever tire of life in a big family, come live in Yrando. You can build a family of your own and live here. But I believe my Cameron will grow into a great man. I believe in you!"

"Mom" Cameron's eyes brimmed with tears. His fingers dug into his palms, oblivious to the pain. He kept walking, the villa's door drawing closer. "Mom, your son has grown up. I haven't let you down. I've become a great man and can protect you now. Can't you see it?"

"Halt! Please show your invitation!" A security guard's stern voice broke his reverie as he reached the last step.

"Invitation?" Cameron looked up, meeting the guard's gaze with cold eyes.

"Yes," the guard explained. "Today is Mr. Zimmer's birthday celebration. Without an invitation, no one is allowed in!"

"Not allowed in without an invitation?" Cameron laughed, a bitter sound. He wondered why he would need an invitation to his own home.

"Step aside!" Cameron shouted, his voice filled with formidable intent.
