Chapter 39

"Kid, any last words? Timothy's on his way!" Caspian said triumphantly, a smirk on his face. The wound on his head, though stopped by an ice pack, left him looking fierce, his face smeared with blood.

"Tell him to hurry and stop wasting my time," Cameron replied calmly, eyes closed.

"Good, very good! Let's see if you still feel that way after meeting my boss," Caspian sneered angrily. In his eyes, Cameron was just a brute, a bumpkin who'd never heard of the powerful Timothy—a man who commanded respect even from provincial officials. Who did this bumpkin think he was?

Seeing the shift in power, Madison's friends began to flatter Caspian, pleading, "Lord Caspian, that jerk's arrogance has nothing to do with us. Your wisdom and power are unmatched. Please let us go!"

"Let you go?" Caspian smiled wickedly. "None of you are going anywhere today. But"

"But what, Lord Caspian?" Madison asked hopefully.

"If you serve me and my gang well, I might consider it." Caspian's eyes narrowed, his smile cruel.

"Hehe, the boss is right!" his henchmen cheered, their pain forgotten. These women are attractive!

"Lord Caspian, is there no other way?" Madison asked, her face pale. She understood his meaning.

"Bargaining with me?" Caspian frowned fiercely.

Madison's heart trembled. She decided to use Archie's name. "Caspian, my boyfriend is Archie. You're friendly with him, aren't you? Please let us go for his sake."

"Archie?" Caspian sneered. "What's he to me? Why should I care? Even his father wouldn't make a difference!" He'd only been helping Archie because of a promise of beautiful women. Did Archie think a few meals and nightclub visits entitled him to a favor?

Seeing the situation spiraling out of control, fearing implication, she secretly texted Archie for help. He replied that he was on his way, though he was more anxious than anyone.

Relieved by Archie's reply, Madison turned to her friends, playing the role of a good Samaritan. "Don't worry, my boyfriend's coming. He'll save us."

"Thank you, Madison," they said gratefully, seemingly forgetting who was truly responsible. Then, they glared at Cameron and Dakota, muttering curses.

"It's all these two idiots' fault!"

"Look at Madison's boyfriend, then look at yours! Besides causing trouble, what can he do?"

"Dakota, make your useless boyfriend say something! Doesn't he have a mouth?"

"You guys!" Dakota fumed, her face red with anger. They'd gone too far.

"Dakota, ignore them," Cameron said calmly.

"You bastard, so you do have a mouth!" the girls sneered.

Cameron remained silent, infuriating them.

"Mr. Dashner is here!"

A voice from outside silenced everyone. Fear filled the room. Madison's legs went weak; Dakota's face paled. They heard approaching footsteps, closer and closer, until they stopped at the door.

Cameron slowly opened his eyes.
