Chapter 48
Archie's words dripped with mockery and scorn. He snorted, looking at Cameron expectantly.
“You seem very confident,” Cameron said with a light smile.
“I have always been a confident man. Unlike a certain someone who relies on borrowed plumes,” Archie sneered. He believed Lord Blackheart had been Cameron's "borrowed plumes" at the wedding, and now he wanted to see Cameron humiliated without Blackheart's assistance.
“Is that so?” Cameron responded indifferently.
Archie's lips twitched, annoyance evident. “You're a damn good actor, brat! But Lord Blackheart has left Yrando. No one's here to help you now!”
“Didn't Blackheart say he would be back soon? Besides, it's just a small banquet. I don't need his help,” Cameron replied calmly.
“Still clinging to your act, I see! Keep pretending, then!” Archie sneered.
“Do you think you're some big shot, Cameron?” Madison scoffed. “When will you accept reality?”
Cameron turned to Madison. “You're the ones who need to accept reality. Do you really think Archie's father is so magnanimous that Timothy would host a banquet for you as compensation?”
“What other reason could there be? Do you think he did it for a piece of trash like you?” Madison's face reddened with fury.
“Dakota, your boyfriend is quite the actor!”
Madison's friends, annoyed by the disruption, glared at Cameron and Dakota.
“If it were me, I'd have left long ago. How can you be so shameless? You're insulting the host!”
“She's right! Mr. Price gave you an excuse to leave, but you're so stubborn!”
“He's just a moocher who leeches off his woman!”
The insults only fueled Madison's anger. She tilted her chin, looking down her nose at Cameron. “Do you hear that? Get out! Stop embarrassing yourself! No one believes you!”
“Leave?” Cameron stared at Madison. “This banquet was held for Dakota and me. Without us, there would be no banquet.”
“Prove it!” Madison was at her breaking point. “If that's true, the banquet will end if you both leave!”
“Damn it! Why are you so stubborn?” Madison stamped her foot in anger.
Madison's friends chimed in, “This is Madison's banquet! You're just here for free food! Drop the act!”
“Leave! You're ruining my appetite!”
Insults filled the air. Dakota’s face fell. She started to retort, but Cameron stopped her.
He stood up slowly and addressed the crowd. “Since we're unwelcome, we'll be leaving now. Don't come crying to us later.”
With that, Cameron led Dakota from the room.
“Why would we do that? You think too highly of yourselves!”
“Those eyesores are finally gone!”
The crowd scoffed and sneered at their retreating figures.
After Cameron and Dakota left, Caspian entered with several men. Despite his arm being in a cast, his intimidating presence remained. His men carried two expensive bottles of Romanée-Conti.
As expected of Lord Caspian!
“Lord Caspian!” Archie and Madison greeted him warmly. “Please, have a seat.”
Caspian ignored them, his gaze fixed on the empty seats. He asked, “Where are Mr. Morgan and Ms. Jennings? Haven't they arrived yet?”
