Chapter 54
Madison paused, surprised Cameron hadn't let her continue. This only confirmed her suspicion of his guilt. Her confidence soared, and her tone reflected it.
“Don’t be fooled by Cameron’s lame lies! He’s a good-for-nothing mooch—and I’ve never introduced him to most of you. He isn’t who he claims to be! He and Mr. Dashner are not acquaintances! Mr. Dashner invited us and promised to be here for my birthday. Yet, this asshole stole the show! Doesn’t that seem strange?”
Stella and the others frowned. “She’s right. It is weird now that she mentioned it.”
The banquet had begun, but Timothy hadn’t arrived. He’d promised to be at Madison’s Star Karaoke birthday celebration yesterday. Had Cameron bribed Caspian to act with him? The crowd, wary of another conflict, remained silent.
Archie slapped his thigh. “You’re right! Why didn’t I think of that?” Madison’s words had been a revelation. He sneered at Cameron. “You’re sly, brat! You couldn’t win fair and square, so you used underhanded tactics!”
Madison tilted her chin proudly. “Honey, you agree with me, don’t you?”
Archie huffed. “I do! You knocked some sense into me.”
Everything was clear now. Cameron had bribed Caspian and stolen his spotlight. As a prominent figure, Archie knew Caspian was greedy and unscrupulous. He’d met Caspian through his lab, where Caspian had taken advantage of the women there. Yesterday, Caspian had only helped Archie because Archie promised to send a drunk Dakota to Caspian’s bed. Cameron must have known this.
Caspian jumped up, roaring, “Fuck! What are you talking about?” The others jumped at his outburst.
Madison met Caspian’s gaze, hissing self-righteously, “I’m stating facts, Lord Caspian.”
Caspian’s eyes widened. He never expected his actions to catch up to him.
Madison pressed on, “Lord Caspian, why hasn’t Mr. Dashner arrived?”
Caspian roared, “Why should Timothy tell you when he’s coming? Who do you think you are? Men! Slap some sense into her!”
The men complied, slapping Madison across the face. The sound echoed through the room. Madison, shocked, covered her stinging cheeks and glared at Caspian. “Lord Caspian, how dare you hit me?”
Caspian huffed domineeringly. “Why not? Apologize to Mr. Morgan, or I’ll break your legs!”
Madison shrieked, losing her temper. “Never! I didn’t do anything wrong! I demand justice! I want what’s rightfully mine! I’ll tell Mr. Dashner about you and Cameron!”
Caspian’s face darkened. “Perez, get her!” He would teach this woman a lesson.
Perez stepped forward.
Madison stumbled back, yelling, “Don’t you dare! I’ll have my boyfriend call Mr. Dashner now!”
A deep voice cut through the commotion. “What’s with the ruckus?” A tall figure entered—Timothy.
Madison’s eyes lit up. Her savior had arrived. “Mr. Dashner!”
