Chapter 61
Dakota's expression soured, but she answered the phone. "Sorry, I'm busy," she said, hanging up after a few seconds. Her phone rang again immediately. This time, it was her aunt.
She answered. "I've already told you. I don't want to meet him."
"What are you talking about, Dakota? I'm only looking out for you and your family. Don't you understand your family's situation? Willie's already at your house. Your uncle and I are here too. Hurry home. Don't keep us waiting!"
"You" The call ended before Dakota could finish.
Dakota sighed heavily. She had no choice but to go home.
"What happened?" Cameron asked, concerned.
"It's my aunt," Dakota said helplessly. "She's trying to set me up on a blind date."
"A blind date?" Cameron raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," Dakota nodded, quickly adding, "My family's facing financial difficulties. To save the family business, my aunt and uncle are trying to marry me off to a wealthy man. But I don't like him, so I refused. She keeps trying, though. There's nothing I can do to change her mind."
"I understand," Cameron said, taking a deep breath. "You don't want him bothering you anymore, right?"
"Yes," Dakota nodded.
"Then I'll accompany you home," Cameron suggested.
"Really?" Dakota's eyes widened with joy. Then, a problem occurred to her. "But how do I introduce you?"
She couldn't refuse advances if she introduced Cameron as a friend.
Cameron already had a plan. "If you don't mind, I can pretend to be your boyfriend."
A pretend boyfriend?
Dakota's heart skipped a beat. Even though it was pretend, her heart raced.
"Sure," Dakota nodded, biting her lip. "Sorry for the trouble"
"It's no trouble at all. It's what friends do," Cameron smiled, turning to the crystal sculpture. He raised an eyebrow. "Should we put this at your place or mine?"
Dakota blushed slightly. "Let's leave it at yours. I don't think it'll fit in my house."
"Okay, I'll have someone move it. Let me know when you want to see it," Cameron said, quickly adding, "I didn't mean that in a romantic way"
"I know," Dakota pursed her lips. She knew Cameron wasn't that kind of person.
"Haha. Good. Shall we go?" Cameron changed the subject.
"Okay," Dakota nodded. She suddenly felt a special connection with Cameron.
