Chapter 76

"Hmm," Cameron said, a little confused.

With a puzzled look, he asked, "Why did you suddenly ask about that?"

"I just wanted to know," Dakota replied.

For someone as talented as Cameron, a small city like Yrando wasn't big enough. He surely would leave someday. However, she wanted to know when, hoping to stay in touch.

"Currently, I have no plans to leave," Cameron replied with a laugh. "There's still something very important I haven't done."

Dakota was instantly relieved. Concernedly, she asked, "What is it?"

"It's extremely important, but the timing isn't right yet," Cameron said, looking at her curiously. "By the way, why did you suddenly ask?"

"I just thought of it," she said. "I was curious." She quickly changed the subject. "By the way, did you know Laura is visiting Yrando the day after tomorrow?"

Cameron's face fell.

Dakota continued, "I heard she's from Leving, one of the eight prominent families. She was born into one of the eight prominent families in Leving," she said, looking at him hopefully.

Cameron shook his head. "I don't know her." His gaze, however, turned cold.

Seeing this, Dakota became unsettled. "What's wrong, Cameron?" she asked, realizing she'd said something wrong. [Remove the intrusive advertisement here]

"It's nothing," he said, noticing her worry. He shed the coldness from his eyes, took a deep breath, and made an excuse. "I just remembered things from the past. I was asked to leave the Morgan family when I was young, so I've never met Laura. Like you, I've only heard about her accomplishments."

"I'm sorry, Cameron," Dakota said, feeling guilty. She'd forgotten about his past. Bringing it up was like rubbing salt on a wound.

"It's okay, it's all in the past," Cameron sighed. "But sometimes, it still bothers me."

Dakota looked at him, wanting to speak but hesitating.

"Yes?" Cameron asked, his eyes flickering.

"I just wanted to say no matter what happens, you can always talk to me. I'll be there for you. You'll never be alone again. I'll always be your friend!" Dakota said, seemingly using all her strength.

Cameron was taken aback. He looked at her determined eyes, feeling warmth in his heart. "Thank you, Dakota," he said sincerely.

"Alright, I'm tired. I'm going to sleep," Dakota said, lying down and burying her head in her blanket. Her heart raced. She hadn't expected to say those things. Hopefully, Cameron hadn't read too much into them. Otherwise, she'd be mortified.

Cameron watched her disappear under the blanket. A gentle smile appeared on his face. In that moment, something deep down seemed to have become even more resolute.
