Chapter 92
Laura's heart trembled at Cameron's cold statement, but her eyes remained calm.
“Cameron, I—”
“Enough. Don’t say anything more. Just drop me off here. I have something to take care of, and I want to get off first,” Cameron said coldly. The slight flicker in his eyes, however, betrayed his composure.
Laura forced herself to suppress her emotions, but her hands clenched involuntarily. A heavy silence fell over the car.
Then, Cameron’s cold voice rang out again. “Ms. Jones, please ask Perez to stop here. I want to get off.”
Laura finally responded, her voice tinged with pain. “Cameron, do you not want to see me again?”
Cameron paused, looking into Laura’s eyes. He thought saying “I don’t want to” would be easy, but the words caught in his throat. He knew the consequences. However, remembering what happened seven years ago, his heart turned cold. “I don’t want to,” he replied.
Laura’s heart pounded violently. A wave of breathless suffocation washed over her.
Cameron felt a twinge of pity at her distress, yet he quickly composed himself. He would never trust her again.
Silence descended once more. Finally, Laura spoke. “I understand.”
Cameron’s eyes flickered. “Okay,” he replied coolly, seemingly trying to distance himself.
“But I won’t leave Yrando so soon,” Laura said, taking a deep breath.
“Whatever,” Cameron replied.
Laura fell silent.

Peggy observed all this, her teeth gritted in anger. The grinding sound was audible. This jerk was despicable! She couldn’t understand why Laura was helping him.
“Ms. Jones, please ask the driver to stop. I need to get off,” Cameron said again.
Laura’s eyes flickered, but she agreed. “Okay. Perez, stop the car ahead.”
“Yes, Ms. Jones,” the driver replied.
The car was about to enter the ring road intersection when Cameron suddenly changed his mind. “Wait!”
Peggy, who had been simmering, finally retorted, “What’s wrong? Now that Ms. Jones doesn’t fall for your tricks, you’re backing down?” She believed Cameron was acting. What could a loser abandoned by his ex-wife do?
Cameron ignored her, his expression turning solemn.
Peggy sneered. “Oh, now you’re trying to act all serious?” She crossed her arms, waiting to see his next move.
Laura asked in surprise, “What’s wrong, Cameron?” She knew he wasn’t that kind of person.
Cameron remained silent. The black Lincoln slowly entered the ring road.
“Danger! Get down now!” Cameron suddenly shouted.
