โAll done.โ Levi sighed in relief as he finished bandaging my arm. โI could get the healer,โ he offered.
โNo need. Iโll be fine by tomorrow. My wolfโs healing abilities must have done their work,โ I replied, and Levi nodded, still squatting before me. Feeling awkward being so close to him, I stood up and walked to the window, pretending to take in fresh air when, in truth, I just wanted to be as far away from him as possible. But Levi didnโt take the hint. Instead, he followed and stood behind me, making me frown as I wondered what he was doing.
โIs there a problem?โ I asked, irritated, my back still turned to him.
I heard Levi release a soft sigh. For a moment, he said nothing. It was like he was struggling to find the right words. Our mate bond sparked to life, and suddenly, I began to feel his emotionsโsomething that hadnโt happened before. Theyโd blocked me, blocked me from feeling anything from them. But nowโฆ it felt like Levi had unblocked me. And what I felt? It was a mix of nervousness, worry, and fear.
I furrowed my brow, confused. Why was Levi letting me feel his emotions? Why was he giving me that kind of access? That kind of connection is only shared between mates who trust each other. So why now?
โOliviaโฆ I have something to say,โ Levi said gently, his voice softโlike the man I used to knowโฆ like how he used to talk to me. โCan you please turn around? I want to look you in the eyes and say it,โ he pleaded.
For a moment, my heart began to race. My wolf whimpered softly, clearly confused. Why was Levi acting like this? Why was he speaking so gently? And why couldnโt I be angry at himโฆ tell him that I didnโt want to hear a word? Maybe it was because I could feel his emotions. His nervousness.
I wanted to turn, but I kicked against it. โYou can say what you have to say, Alpha Levi,โ I muttered, trying to sound as harsh as I could be.
There was silence between us for a while. I could feel Leviโs emotions through the bond. I could feel everything. He was nervous, scaredโฆ and sorry.
โI want to let the past go,โ Levi finally said, his voice soft but clear. โI want us to be together, the way real mates should be.โ
I didnโt move. His words were shocking. I didnโt know how to respond.
โIโm sorry, Olivia,โ he said again. โIโm sorry for hurting you all these years. But I was in pain too. What you did to meโฆ it really hurt. It broke me.โ
My heart started beating faster. I was confused. What I did to him? What was he talking about?
โWhat did I do, Levi?โ I asked slowly, still not turning around.
There was a long pause before I finally turned to face him. I needed to see his eyes when he answered. But when he looked at me, he didnโt speak right away. He just lookedโฆ sad.
โYou know what you did,โ he said, his voice tight.
โNo, I donโt,โ I replied, shaking my head. โI honestly donโt remember. Why donโt you just tell me?โ He looked away, his jaw clenched like he was trying not to say something.
โBecause I canโt,โ he finally said. โI donโt want to go back to that moment. And maybe itโs better that you donโt remember.โ
His words made my chest feel heavy. None of this made sense. If he wasnโt going to tell me, why bring it up at all?
โThen why say all this?โ I asked, my voice cracking a little. โWhy tell me youโre hurt by something I donโt even remember?โ
โBecause I want you to understand why I acted the way I did. I wasnโt just being cruel for no reason,โ he said softly. โYou hurt me that day, Olivia. And Iโve been carrying that pain for years. But Iโm tired of it. I donโt want to live like that anymore. I want to move forward. I want us to start againโฆ if youโll let me.โ
I stared at him, unsure of what to say. Start over? After everything? I didnโt even know what I had done to him, and he wouldnโt tell me. How was I supposed to decide something so big when I didnโt even know the full story?
And yetโฆ I could feel his pain. I could feel that he truly meant what he said.
โOliviaโฆโ Levi stepped forward, reaching out to take my hand.
But I quickly stepped back and shook my head, my voice rising. โNo, Leviโฆ you have to tell me what I did! How did I hurt you? You and your brothers keep saying I hurt you, but I donโt remember anything! I canโt remember doing anything!โ
He opened his mouth to speakโhis eyes dark and full of something I couldnโt quite placeโbut just then, a sharp, sudden pain hit my chest. I gasped, grabbing my shirt as the pain shot through my heart like fire. It wasnโt physical exactlyโit was deeper, tied to my wolf.
Levi froze, his hand reaching out like he felt it too. โOlivia?โ he asked urgently, his voice full of panic. โDid you feel that?โ
I nodded, struggling to breathe. โY-Yeahโฆ what was that?โ
My wolf whimpered deep inside me, her voice breaking as she cried out one name, Lennox.
I froze, eyes wide. Leviโs expression changed instantlyโhis eyes darkening with worry. โSomethingโs wrong,โ he said, already turning toward the door. โSomethingโs wrong with Lennox!โ
And without another word, he ran. I didnโt think. I followed. My heart was pounding, my legs moving before I could even process what I was doing. I could feel my wolfโs fear pressing in on me like a storm. Something was wrongโvery wrong. โLevi!โ I shouted as we raced down the hallway. โWhatโs happening?!โ
But he didnโt answer. He just kept running, faster and faster. And the only thing I knew for sure was that the pain in my chest wasnโt just mine anymoreโit was Lennoxโs. And it was getting worse.
What could be wrong with Lennox?
