Chapter 523

When Stephanie walked in, Ella was sitting at the table, her eyes red from crying. She was mixing up some medicine for Lorenzo. As soon as she entered, Stephanie saw Ella’s distressed face. In just a few days, Ella had lost weight and looked like she hadn’t slept at all. Stephanie felt a wave of sympathy for her. “Ella,” she said softly.

Ella stopped what she was doing and looked up at Stephanie, tears instantly streaming down her face. “Stefi.” Stephanie hurried over, her voice gentle as she asked, “What’s wrong? Why are you crying?” She must have gone through something last night, she thought.

Considering all the messes Ella had gotten into with Lorenzo lately, Stephanie couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed for her. ‘Ella really has a way of getting into trouble, huh?’ she thought.

Ella sniffled and wiped her nose. “You’re here, Stefi. I thought I might not see the sunrise today,” she said, hugging Stephanie and starting to cry again.

Bernard, who had just walked in, heard Ella’s words and couldn’t help but twitch his mouth in disbelief. He thought, ‘What does she mean that she might not see today’s sunrise? Come on. Don’t be so dramatic. Nothing really happened last night. We scared her with our words, but that’s all. Now she’s acting like she almost didn’t make it through the night?’ ‘She doesn’t get it. Poor Lorenzo, he is stuck with such a timid woman. How’s he supposed to deal with this in the future?’

Stephanie wrapped her arms around Ella and gently patted her back. “It’s okay. Everything’s fine now,” she assured Ella. She thought, ‘Lorenzo really needs to be more gentle with Ella. If he’s not careful, he might not have a wife at all.’ ‘But he wasn’t like this before. He used to be so easygoing when he was with Sebastian. Why is he acting like this with Ella? Could it be because of all the craziness she’s been through with him?’

Ella’s shoulders shook as she cried, but she seemed particularly pitiful. Stephanie kept comforting her. “It’s okay. It’s all in the past. Just forget about it, okay?”

“No, it’s not over. It’s not. I almost died!” Ella’s voice cracked. With everything that happened last night, if Lorenzo really had gotten hurt, she wouldn’t have survived to see Stephanie today.

Stephanie shook her head. “No. It’s impossible. Lorenzo would never let anything happen to you.” She believed that while other people’s words might not get through to Lorenzo, Sebastian’s words would definitely get his attention.

Ella sniffled again. “It’s because of him. I almost died because of him.”

Stephanie was stunned. “What?” ‘She almost died because of Lorenzo?’ Stephanie thought, feeling confused. Stephanie opened her mouth to say something, furrowing her brow. “Did anything happen between you two again?”

Chapter 528

She thought, ‘Did she mess up again in front of Lorenzo last night? The belt buckle incident back at Shallow Bay Area and then the towel incident here. If something else happened last night, Ella really seems to have a lot of accidents around…’

Ella sobbed, her voice shaking. “I almost killed Lorenzo last night…”

What the heck? Stephanie thought, completely shocked. She gently pushed Ella away, staring at her in complete confusion. “Say that again?” she asked, still not sure she’d heard correctly. Ella? Kill Lorenzo? No way. She can’t do that. Not in a million years. No one could kill Lorenzo, she thought.

Ella wiped her nose. “I almost took Lorenzo’s life last night, Stefi. I was so scared.” She choked on her words, adding, “I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I wasn’t like this when I was in Long Harbor. Why do I always mess up in front of him?” Ella couldn’t finish her sentence before she started crying again. Stephanie just stood there, completely speechless.
