Chapter 212
Just as they were about to leave, Sebastian's phone rang. His expression instantly darkened. Gently rubbing Stephanie's hair, he said warmly, "Go ahead, I'll catch up." Jackson nodded unconcernedly. Seeing Sebastian was busy, Stephanie left first. Only after her footsteps faded did Sebastian answer.
"You found Stefi?" A man's voice, dripping with arrogance, answered.
Sebastian's grip tightened. "What concern is she of yours?"
"She is, since Stefi..."
Sebastian coldly interrupted, "Richard Casalini, I suggest you value your life." Richard Casalini, Valentina's older brother, was a powerful figure. Years ago, Stephanie had fled Fiorenza, fearing Richard's influence and his control over her mother and sister, Sofia. The threat he posed to Sebastian had forced her hand; she left, diverting Richard's attention and giving Sebastian brief respite. That respite would become Richard's greatest regret. In the last two years, Sebastian had ruthlessly dismantled the Casalini family. He chuckled darkly. "You still dare call?"
Richard mocked, "It's not daring; I must. I'm concerned about Stef." A mocking laugh followed.
Sebastian's voice grew colder. "Worry about yourself. Finn Moran bites his own." Allying with such a man was like walking with wolves. The playful tone vanished as Richard heard about Finn's nature. An ominous warning replaced it: "Pull your people back!" Richard, cornered by Sebastian's ever-watchful men, even those aware of his connection to Finn, spoke directly. Was this Sebastian's unwavering pursuit? Remembering recent ambushes, Richard's tone shifted from playful to cold and dangerous.
Stephanie, bundled in a thick coat, left the small building, carrying a few items, and followed the signs to the hot springs.
"Miss Giovanni?" Kevin called from a distance.
Stephanie paused, turning to see Chris and Kevin approaching. Chris's surprise quickly turned to suspicion. He approached sharply. "What are you doing here? How did you know I was coming?" He glanced at Kevin, who stiffened. "Miss Giovanni didn't call me," Kevin quickly explained, sensing the tension. Chris knew Kevin hadn't revealed his plans; the trip was last minute, a secret from the company. His expression darkened. He turned to Stephanie. "How did you know I was here?"
Stephanie was speechless. Was he implying she'd followed him? Had he been this confident all along? She began to question his sanity. "Why aren't you with Olivia? Why are you here? And how did you know I was here? Were you planning to ambush me?" she retorted.
Chris's face darkened. His gaze sharpened.
