Chapter 90

Chris's expression darkened. "They made it that clear?"

"Yes." Chris clenched his jaw, his face growing stormy.

Tyler's voice was sharp. "What's her relationship with Macro? Why would Macro care about her opinion?"

Just hearing that Stephanie had a say in the matter suggested their relationship was more complicated than anyone realized. Chris's expression grew darker.

Not only was Macro close to that man from Cloudridge Valley, but now he was involved with… Chris thought, his chest tightening with fury. Anger drowned out rational thought. The memory of Stephanie saying she only cared about him, followed by her cold indifference, flashed in his mind.

It was unbearable. He couldn't accept the truth: Stephanie didn't love him, and she had a lover. "How dare she?" he seethed.

"Chris, Olivia's condition is worsening. If those two doctors don't arrive soon, there will be dire consequences," Tyler said urgently.

The consequences were clear: Olivia would die, suffering until the end.

"Fine," Chris's voice was hoarse, thick with rage.

Looking up, he saw Stephanie emerging from a sleek Aston Martin, speaking to the driver. Her smile seemed nothing but flattery to him. The car drove away. Stephanie turned toward the building, pausing, taken aback, when she saw him. His gaze burned with anger.

Stephanie remembered checking her phone that morning, noticing numerous missed calls, many from unknown numbers. One was likely from Chris.

"Stephanie, you're so cheap. How many lovers do you have?" His voice thundered, laced with fury.

Already annoyed to see him, the accusation made her blood boil. She marched up to him and slapped him hard. "How many lovers I have is none of your business. What right do you have to shout at me?"

Though the office rush had subsided, people were still present. The slap echoed, and Chris's face darkened. Gritting his teeth, he looked at her. "Stephanie, you—"

"Louder, why don't you?" Stephanie slapped him again.

Chris, speechless, could barely contain his fury.

Seeing him silent, Stephanie crossed her arms and sneered. "Are you out of your mind? Everyone in Long Harbor knows we've called off the engagement, so what are you doing here? And asking about my lovers? What business is it of yours? Hundreds of men would want to be with me—so what? Are you going to kill me over it?"

Chris's anger exploded, his face turning red.

Stephanie continued, "And marriage is supposed to be about mutual consent and equality. What are you doing? Just because we were once engaged, does that mean I lost the right to choose freely?"

She ranted rapidly. Chris couldn't interrupt, his mind blanking as he watched her. Then, he noticed her swollen mouth. From past relationships, he instantly understood. The anger in his eyes intensified.

"How long have you been with that guy? Did you sleep with him? Did you have sex with him?" Chris demanded harshly.

Stephanie shot back, "Hey, that's disgusting! You…"

She aimed a kick at him. He dodged, fueling her anger further.
