“I have no objection to it,” Alpha Marcus said. We continued to discuss some of the finer points and booked a time the next day for the first call between Sarah and her family. When the meeting was over, Finlay mindlinked Matilda to ask his mother and Sarah to come to our office. We explained the situation, and they both looked at us with big eyes.
“I can talk to my parents?” Sarah asked. “Yes. They have been trying to get in contact with you ever since you left your old pack,” I told her again. “Thank you,” she mumbled. We talked about the call and that both of them needed to talk with the Alpha and Luna of Little Lake pack, but no one foresaw an issue with them transferring over. As they got ready to leave, Tamara hesitated and then turned towards me.
“How are you doing, Amie?” she asked. The question surprised me, and it took me a moment to collect myself. “I’m fine, thank you, Tamara,” I said. “Good, stress is never good, especially not when you are pregnant. How is the pup?” I looked up at Finlay, but he looked as surprised as me. “The pup is well.” “When is your next check-up?” “Oh, in two weeks,” I told her. “Would it be okay if you sent me a text letting me know how it went?” she asked. “I would be happy to. We have decided to find out if it’s a boy or a girl and we will make sure to share the news,” I said. “Thank you. I will be looking forward to it.” There was a long, awkward silence that I didn’t know how to fill. Then Tamara said goodbye and walked out of our office. “That was… progress,” I said to Finlay. “Yes,” he agreed. “What does it mean?” he then asked. “I don’t know, love. Maybe she listened to what you told her.” “What do I do with it?”
“I feel like a crappy mate, but I can’t answer that. It’s up to you if you want to try and build a relationship, or cut her off, or maybe not make a decision now and wait to see if the change lasts,” I told him. “No matter what you decide, I will support you,” I added to let him know he wasn’t alone. “I think I will let it be for now. There has been enough family drama for now.” I nodded, and we headed for dinner.
The talk between Sarah and her parents went well. Over the next few days, they had daily contact, and Tamara sometimes joined in the calls as well. Both of them had been granted permission to stay in Sarah’s old pack. Both Finlay and I were relieved to know they had a safe place to go to and to know we didn’t need to extend their stay. Even if our relationship with both of them had improved, it was unnerving to have Sarah flinch every time Finlay walked into the room, and there was an awkwardness with his mother. She tried, but it didn’t feel all the way genuine. The pack noticed it as well, and I could see the looks they gave Sarah as she reacted to Finlay. They loved their Alpha, and to see her think of him as some monster rubbed everyone the wrong way. The day they finally left for the airport, I breathed a sigh of relief.
Chapter 134 (2/2)
“If I had known what the two idiots were doing back then, I would have stopped them,” Matilda told us as we stood and watched as two warriors drove the two to the airport. “It’s not your fault. At least now we don’t have to try and find a reason why things have turned out the way they did,” Finlay told her. “True. And now they are gone, the pack can get back to normal,” she agreed. “Are you okay with letting your sister leave?” I asked. “Oh yes. I think we make better sisters with some distance between us; that way, I don’t get the strong urge to kill her when I think about her stupidity,” Matilda said with warmth. Both Finlay and I laughed, and I gave her a hug.
