Chapter 12: A Twist

“Gather all evidence of Jasper’s infidelity,” Alexander commanded, speaking into his phone. This was essentially a declaration of war, promising Jasper would leave the marriage with nothing—years of his hard work lost overnight.

Jasper, regaining his composure, shouted, “You can’t do this, Evian! You started this, so why blame me? Yes, I’m with Sienna, but I made you my wife. What more do you want?”

His shameless words left the Quirk family flabbergasted and furious.

“Did I beg to be your wife?” Evian asked incredulously, seething.

“Your family pressured me!” Jasper retorted. “Given the circumstances, could I have stayed in medicine without marrying you?”

Evian was overcome with rage. “Jasper, your hypocrisy is sickening.”

Jasper was stunned. He’d never seen Evian lash out like this. Evian finally came to her senses! she thought. Jasper is the type to bite the hand that feeds him!

Initially on the verge of tears, Evian, spurred by Isabelle’s thoughts, lifted her chin and glared fiercely at Jasper.

“You’re nothing but a freeloader!” she declared, using his most despised nickname.

“What did you just say?” Jasper demanded.

“I’m calling you a freeloader who lives off others with your mistress—a pair of parasites! You both have no shame!”

Sienna, having overheard the commotion, exploded. “Evian, you bitch! You stole my man and everything! You’re the shameless one!”

She would never forget Evian sleeping with her boyfriend after their argument. Evian had wasted no time climbing into Jasper’s bed. This had been a profound shock to Sienna.

After discovering her pregnancy, Sienna swallowed her resentment and sought out Jasper, only to learn of his forced marriage to Evian. She considered termination but couldn’t bring herself to do it, until…

“Then why didn’t you try to get him back all these years?” Evian retorted sharply. “Your man refused a divorce for power, and you’re nothing but a mistress. What right do you have to complain?”

“Because your family threatened Jasper’s future!” Sienna snapped. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t have swallowed my pride. Even without marrying me, he would have loved and protected me, leaving you alone. That’s your deserved retribution.”

Isabelle thought, Jasper is quite the manipulator. He’s completely fooled his mistress.

Evian scoffed. “I may be a fool, Sienna, but so are you. Jasper, you knew about your family’s threats! You’re playing the victim and trying to use the moral high ground? You chose to use my family for your future, abandoning your so-called true love! Don’t slander me!”

Evian’s words crushed Jasper’s pride. His features contorted as if she’d revealed his deepest shame.

“Don’t slander Jasper!” Sienna defended immediately.

Evian smirked. “Fine. After I divorce him, you’ll understand what it means to be threatened by the powerful!”

The threat from the Quirk family’s eldest daughter was serious.

“Evian, what happened to you?” Jasper blurted out.

“Hah, just as I thought,” Evian said, her mind sharp and alert. “Worried? So you knew the Quirk family had no intention of harming you!”

Jasper was speechless.

Seeing Evian’s transformation, Paula realized she was no longer the clinging daughter-in-law. Tears welled in her eyes as she reached for Evian’s hand. “Evie, please give him another chance! He’s suffered enough.”

Selena shielded Evian protectively. Paula then grabbed Jasper, forcing him to apologize. “Apologize! Do you want our family to fall apart?”

Paula nearly brought Jasper to his knees. After a struggle, he spoke. “I won’t divorce, Evie. I was wrong. I do care about you…”

“Jasper!” Sienna shouted. Is what Evian said true? Has he deceived me?

“Shut up!” Jasper yelled at Sienna.

Isabelle thought, His flexibility in accepting setbacks is revolting.

Alexander coldly shattered Jasper’s illusion. “The evidence of your infidelity is irrefutable. You have no choice.”

Jasper turned to Evian, but only saw disgust in her eyes. When she looked away, he knew it was over.

Sienna, losing composure, cried, “Jasper, don’t forget about the child—”

“I told you to shut up!” Jasper roared. “Do you want to lose the child? Do you have a death wish?”

A child? Sienna was pregnant? The Quirk family was appalled. Even Sean seemed shocked.

Sienna wilted under Jasper’s harshness. Jasper's expression shifted before he resigned himself to his fate. He stood, body injured, holding onto the sobbing Paula with one hand and Sean with the other.

“I wronged Evie and will divorce. I just hope others won’t be implicated.” He turned decisively, ending the argument.

Isabelle wondered, Did he flee because he was afraid of another beating? She’d expected more stubbornness from him.

The Quirk family just wanted the Lawsons gone. The Lawsons left, only Sean glancing back.

Amidst Evian’s sorrow, she looked at Sean, and felt a jolt. Jasper, noticing Sean’s glance, tugged him sharply, causing Sean to stumble. Jasper’s menacing expression instilled fear.

Jasper, his back to the Quirk family, smiled cruelly. “Evian and the Quirk family, you’ll regret humiliating me!”

Watching them leave, Isabelle thought, Justice has been served.

Alexander glanced at Isabella, complex emotions in his eyes. It’s a shame for the boy, though… he thought. Such a shameless couple…why would they let their child recognize his enemy as his mother?

Alexander knew Isabella’s worry was unnecessary. It was all to ensure Sean's eligibility to inherit from the Quirk family and Lawsons. If Evian couldn't have children, adoption was the only option, but Jasper would never accept a child not of his blood. Sienna being pregnant again made giving one child up logical. Only Evian would be the outsider.

Suddenly, Isabella darted towards the Lawsons, at the door.

“Ah!” Isabella’s cry startled the Quirk family.

They watched as Isabella grabbed Sean’s arm, then kicked Jasper, trying to snatch Sean away. Alexander caught Sean, but Jasper was knocked to the ground, Paula with him. His scream echoed through the manor.

No one paid them attention. The Quirk family was focused on Isabella's silent rage.

System, are you out of your mind? This is a disaster! I clearly stated that Jasper wanted to adopt his biological son! This system dared to switch the babies Sienna and Evian gave birth to at the same time! Nine years later, he even asked Evian to adopt again! I didn't expect Sean to be Evian's biological son!
