Chapter 129: Who Knew He Could Be So Unhinged

The Quirk family lingered backstage, eager for the latest gossip, reluctant to leave. Gordon had presented Mrs. Gonzales with divorce papers, officially proposing a divorce. She was so distraught she was hospitalized, explaining her absence. But Gordon, really? This is outrageous! What a disaster!

Rebecca had bravely explained the situation to Mrs. Gonzales the previous day. While initially skeptical, Mrs. Gonzales had a moment of doubt. However, later, innocent Rebecca was again drawn into the conflict. Gordon’s belief: for Rebecca to meet him, she must have committed past sins.

Isabella twitched her mouth. The Quirk family was speechless. The situation seemed designed to create enemies, not forge an alliance through marriage.

The reason for the hasty proposal? Gordon was provoked by his wife’s observation that Rebecca doesn't love him. Gordon refuses to believe it, convinced he sees love in her eyes during their scenes. Christopher interjected, "Come on, she's an actress! Is it a problem if she acts like she has feelings for you?"

Gordon genuinely believes Rebecca, a woman in her twenties, admires him—an elegant, capable, cultured man in his forties. He attributes this to her often seeking his acting advice, believing her sincerity is unmistakable. David scoffed, "So, you've been delusional! A junior colleague seeking advice equals love? If I thought like that, imagine how many admirers I'd have had!"

It's simply Gordon lusting after her, but refusing to admit it! Despite all this, he insists he hasn't fallen out of love with his wife, claiming their love faded long ago, citing a lack of intimacy for years as proof. Selena retorted, "That's the ultimate insult to a long-term marriage! Are you… impotent?"

Rebecca’s arrival had rekindled his love and zest for life. He'd give her anything, regardless of the cost, facing societal criticism for her sake. Evian exclaimed, "Good heavens! Did you even ask Rebecca what she wants?"

Mrs. Gonzales’ anger was understandable, but she should have directed it at her husband, not Rebecca. The Quirks agreed: "You attacked the wrong person, madam!"

This vicious cycle—Mrs. Gonzales’ insults fueling Gordon’s defense of Rebecca, intensifying Mrs. Gonzales' hatred—was unbearable. The Quirks lamented, "What rotten luck! This twisted game must stop!"

Mrs. Gonzales had told Gordon about Rebecca seeking her out and promising to keep her distance. She emphasized Rebecca was using Gordon's reputation and status. The Quirks chuckled, "Brace yourself for rejection, you perverted old man!"

"Woohoo! He's been rejected!" "Awesome!"

However, Gordon’s enthusiasm wasn't easily dampened. He made a heartfelt promise: "No matter your past, I don't care. I'll protect you. Marry me, leave the entertainment industry, become a wife and mother." The Quirks were speechless.

It sounded awkward, eerily familiar—a dialogue cut from rehearsals! It mirrored a scene where a man tries to reform a courtesan. Christopher and Rosalie recognized it. In the original scene, the man, captivated by the girl's beauty and adoration, eventually grew tired of her, despising her past.

The Quirks fell into deep thought. Danielle, noticing their expressions, worried, "What's wrong? You're about to go on stage!"

Isabella hesitated, then said, "Mrs. Gonzales didn't come. Did they really divorce? Will Mr. Gonzales propose to Rebecca soon? Our contract with her…"

Danielle replied, "Regardless, Rebecca won't say yes. As long as he doesn't propose now, it doesn't matter."

Isabella was confused. Danielle explained, "Proposing now would look threatening, taking advantage of her before her crucial performance. If she doesn't sign with us, this could be her most important performance yet."

Isabella and the Quirks were dumbfounded.
