Chapter 200: Will Not Get a Divorce
Lily was quite attractive, though her spoiled demeanor made her seem fierce. She'd clearly freshened up after their fight; she no longer looked disheveled. Recomposing herself, she declared loudly, "Alexander, I love you! I've loved you for ten years, since freshman year. Eleanor misled me before. I didn't want to ruin your happiness, so I didn't pursue you, but I can't hold back anymore. I want to be with you!"
Everyone stared in disbelief. Whispers filled the air: "Is this normal? Bizarre!" "Even Eleanor secretly tried to steal Alexander." Lily's bold public declarationโstealing a husband right in front of his wifeโwas audacious. Couldn't she have been more discreet? "She's driven to madness!" "Her mental state is alarming." "She's always been bold." "She's thrown caution to the wind!" "If I were her parents, I'd be livid." "That's not quite right; not any parents could nurture such a personality." "Speaking of which, I admire Eleanor; she somehow suppressed Lily in the past."
Lily's confession shocked Isabella and Alexander. Isabella thought, I thought she was just a henchwoman. The cannon fodder's become the boss? I've seen many things in this battlefield of love, but this is a first. Surprisingly, her directness doesn't make her seem like a shameless hussy. Or maybe she lacks the morality to hide her despicable actions? There's always a bigger fish! I'm impressed!
Alexander was speechless. Isabella's voice echoed in his mind: Would slapping her be justified self-defense? No. Every action has a reaction. It would hurt my hand. Those "Slapping Master" slaps were fake.
Lost in thought, Isabella felt Alexander take her hand and raise it toward Lily's face. "Ms. Jenner," Alexander said, his voice laced with annoyance, "can't you see my wife?"
Lily's eyes welled up, but she was stronger than Eleanor. She glared defiantly at Isabella. "I'm a better match for Alexander. I'm my family's only daughter, inheriting all their wealth. The Jenner family's business complements Quirk Group perfectly. If Alexander wishes it, I'll dedicate everything to him."
Lily looked down on Isabella, but everyone else looked at Lily as a fool. Isabella thought, What the fck? A hardcore hopeless romantic? Your parents must be proud.* Before Isabella could comment, Lily said, "Divorce Alexander, name your price!"
Isabella was stunned. Alexander turned to her. "Several hundred millionโany amountโif you divorce Alexander."
More than two hundred million? Isabella thought. Alexander narrowed his eyes. Offered money to leave? This is exciting!
Alexander said, "Ms. Jenner, do you see me as a commodity? My wife isn't short on a few hundred million."
Isabella glanced at him. I can't sell my husband publicly. Lily's not a good person. This is slightly regrettable; in my original world, I longed for this. She sighed, then felt a sharp pull on her hand. "We won't get a divorce," Alexander said firmly, pulling her close. "We won't get a divorce."
Isabella was startled by his seriousness. His dark eyes, in the lamplight, were alluring and frightening.
"The only woman I'll call my wife is Isabella." He'd made his decision.
Lily looked at him aggrievedly. "Alexander, everything I said is true. As a businessman, don't you understand weighing pros and cons?"
Alexander scoffed. "Isabella is my wife. I'm not sure what your family values are, but we weren't taught to use wives as bargaining chips. Even weighing pros and cons, you're worthless in my eyes."
Lily, publicly rejected, glared at Isabella. "You're an orphan, living off the kindness of others, dependent on the Quirk family. How dare you compete with me?"
Isabella slapped her. Everyone was shocked. Isabella continued, "It's fine to berate me, but insulting my deceased family is asking for trouble," and slapped her again. "And you can't insult my in-laws either. They treat me exceptionally well." She hid behind Alexander.
Lily was furious, but seeing Alexander protectively in front of Isabella, he warned, "Ms. Jenner, conduct yourself with dignity. Refrain from appearing in front of my wife and me." This severed ties with the Jenner family.
Everyone was surprised. Eleanor's actions didn't cause this. Isabella was more than just Alexander's wife.
They left. Later, Alexander apologized to Isabella for the damage to her reputation. Isabella beamed, accepting the compensation. "It's fine. You've had it tough with your first crush. And a secret admirer."
Alexander frowned. "You're still not convinced? Eleanor isn't my first crush."
Isabella said, "I'm convinced. If this is your stubbornness in love, expect more challenges. It's fine as long as you're not deceived by a bad woman."
The drive home was silent. Alexander wondered, That's it? She's not going to think about my other words and actions tonight? His heart pounded.
