Chapter 202: Taking It Slow

Falling for you, fallen for you, fallen

Bella's mind completely shut down. She didn't even wonder why Alexander's words always seemed to answer her inner questions.

After Alexander finished his little speech, a wave of embarrassment washed over him. His ears turned pink, and the color spread across his tired face. He looked at Isabella nervously.

In truth, he was also scared. He feared that confessing his true feelings might cause Isabella to avoid him. However, for them to start afresh, he needed to speak his mind.

Alexander watched her anxiously for a reaction. He expected a heartfelt confession, but instead, Isabella blinked and pushed him away. A knot formed in Alexander's throat.

Seeing Isabella's eyes flash with panic, he nervously laughed. "Huh? Really?"

Alexander felt wronged. "If you don't want to say yes right now, or if you want to think it over, that's fine but please don't reject me like that This is the first time I've ever felt this way about a girl."

Isabella looked up at Alexander. His face was creased with concern. She felt flustered; she'd never faced this kind of situation before.

If there were no feelings involved, weighing the pros and cons of a wedding would be simple. Money and lust were acceptable reasons, but when emotions were involved, she felt as if she were deceiving him of his wealth, lust, and love. At her core, Isabella deeply respected true emotions.

She didn't know how to respond to Alexander's sudden confession. Why had the tables turned? Wasn't he supposed to be aloof and unattainable, emotionally detached? Frankly, Isabella's reaction was expected.

So Alexander decided to take a step back and give her space. "Isabella, you don't have to answer me now. Consider this my pursuit of you. We can take our time getting to know each other. When you're ready, let me know, and then we'll have our wedding."

Alexander's retreat proved a good move. Isabella breathed a sigh of relief. Instead of barging into her life, he was choosing to knock on the door of her heart. Isabella hated making difficult decisions.

"Sure that's"

After saying that, she quickly slipped away, clearly wanting to avoid the situation.

"I'm tired. I'm heading in for a nap."

Although Alexander was disappointed, he didn't try to stop her. He let Isabella escape into the house.

When he walked through the front door, all trace of Isabella had disappeared. There wasn't even a whisper of her to be heard. She seemed to have hidden herself in the bedroom.

Yet, she clearly hadn't eaten enough for dinner. Normally, she would have already asked the household help for a late-night snack, but now, she was nowhere to be seen. Alexander chuckled and set off to find the housekeeper. Suddenly, he realized the house was eerily empty. Where was everyone? Since the get-together ended early, the family should have been downstairs.

He felt strange. As Alexander passed a room, he heard noise coming from inside. It sounded like many people were talking.

Alexander turned and found himself looking at the security control room. He pushed the door open.

"Isabella isn't crazily in love with Alexander. Would she really leave him?" Rosalie asked, her voice breaking with sorrow.

"What should we do? I'm so fond of Bella! I don't want her to leave the Quirk family," Evian fretted.

"Don't panic! She hasn't rejected him yet. I have faith in Alexander!" Christopher said.

"Could this be the great pursuit of love?" Selena added.

"No, no, no, it should be called 'falling in love too late'," David countered.

"Aren't they already a married couple?" Callahan asked.

"I believe Ms. Isabella still feels love for Mr. Alexander. They just need some time to sort things out," said the butler.

"Exactly! They never really dated properly. Perhaps Ms. Isabella just wants Mr. Alexander to woo and pursue her," said the housekeeper.

It was a sight to behold. The entire family was there, watching the events unfold live from the security control room. They were completely engrossed in the gossip.

When they saw Alexander's car parked outside for so long, they became curious. They didn't want to disturb the couple, so they decided to peek through the security cameras and found something to gossip about. The entire Quirk family knew that Alexander and Isabella's relationship was slowly improving; Alexander was treating his wife better as the days went by.

However, it was difficult for the Quirk family to associate the term "fallen in love with Alexander" with him. When they heard those words from him, the entire family was shocked.

the most delicious gossip they'd had in a long time.

They'd assumed the pair's relationship would grow closer after Alexander's explanation at the get-together. However, they hadn't expected such words from the normally reserved Alexander. People often commented that he was swift and decisive in his work, but they hadn't expected his approach to romance to be the same.

Everyone was deep in a heated discussion when they suddenly noticed someone watching them. All heads turned to see Alexander standing at the door, his face impassive. He seemed to have reached the pinnacle of embarrassment, leaving him speechless.

Being caught gossiping wasn't something the Quirk family felt embarrassed about.

Christopher spoke first. "It's okay, brother, keep your spirits up. I suggest you ask her out on a date tomorrow. After a few dates, she'll start to recall the affection she once had for you!"

Rosalie immediately countered. "No, no, she's been avoiding us all evening. I think we should give her time to process things. Take it slow. Pushing a girl too hard might backfire." Christopher turned to Rosalie and argued, "That's what you think, but she's not like you."

Rosalie retorted, "And you're not Alexander either. Besides, considering your track record with pursuing girls, maybe you should refrain from giving advice."

Christopher nearly exploded. "You can't suggest ideas either! Your dating history is also filled with failures."

Seeing a fight about to start, Evian interjected, "I think"

The two glared at her, warning her to stay out of it. Evian immediately closed her mouth. "Fine! I don't have any good experiences to share with Alexander anyway."

"How come our romantic genes didn't get passed on to these four?" asked David.

"They must have had a genetic mutation," replied Selena.

"You made a valid point," agreed David.

Rubbing his temples in frustration, Alexander begged, "Please don't interfere. Just pretend you know nothing. Otherwise, she'll feel embarrassed."

Isabella loved gossip, but he wasn't sure how she'd feel about being gossip material.

Everyone immediately assured him they would keep quiet before leaving the security control room.

Alexander's siblings were astounded by his actions. They wondered when he'd started having such feelings and how deep they ran. Alexander didn't know the answers either.

Surprisingly, his parents didn't seem shocked at all. It was as if they knew what was happening better than anyone.

David patted Alexander's shoulder. "Actually, winning someone's heart is quite simple. All you need is"

"You two share such a deep connection. I believe you'll end up together," added Selena.

However, Isabella avoided Alexander for an entire week.

A week later, when the Hampton family sent an invitation, Isabella suddenly remembered what she'd forgotten
