Reading Juicy Gossip in Her Mind: Chapter 340 – Bennett Eaton
Those traveling to the airport were Bennett's cousins, around his age. His eldest cousin, Sarah Quirk, was accompanied by her husband, child, and bachelor brother, Carlos.
During the drive, Bennett ventured, "Sarah, Alexander seems to be doing well. Do you think we could discuss my investment proposal with him?"
Sarah frowned. "Didn't we already try? He thought it wasn't suitable."
"We only communicated remotely last time," Bennett countered. "A personal meeting, perhaps with drinks, might change his mind. It's a great project. Maybe he just doesn't understand it."
"It's rare Alexander even attends Grandfather's birthday," Sarah retorted impatiently. "Let's not pressure him."
Bennett's anxiety grew. "Pressure? It's not like it's a Quirk Group subsidiary! We both worked hard to establish this investment company."
Sarah bristled. "What do you mean? If I didn't care, I wouldn't have asked Alexander for advice. Grandfather says he's the family's sharpest business mind—a genius!"
Bennett's expression tightened. He grumbled, "Your brother's a genius, too."
From the back seat, Carlos, who had been playing a musical game with his niece, looked up, a faint smile playing on his lips. "I can't compare to Alexander. I'm musically talented, but he's genuinely brilliant. I remember him solving my eight-year-old math problems when he was only four."
Sarah chuckled. "You couldn't finish your homework because you were practicing piano, so you asked four-year-old Alexander for help! Only you would do that."
Nina, Sarah's daughter, piped up, "Were you that stupid, Uncle Carlos? You were worse than a four-year-old!"
Carlos chuckled, lightly tapping Nina's nose. "You're a year older than the new kid, but I hear he's smart. If you struggle with homework, don't ask me—ask him. Let him show you up."
Sarah laughed, interjecting, "Leave my daughter alone! Don't mislead her!"
Nina declared proudly, "I'm not stupid! I want to compete with him. Even if he's smarter, I can ask him for help. As long as I understand, I haven't lost!" Carlos chuckled and pinched her cheek.
Just as the mood lightened, Bennett brought up business again. "Carlos, do you think we should give up on Alexander? It's our personal project. Working with the Quirk family always means being under Alexander's thumb."
Carlos noticed Nina's disappointment and frowned at Bennett's back.
Sarah was about to protest when Carlos said, "Bennett, I don't understand Quirk Group affairs, but I trust Alexander's judgment. If he says it's not feasible, it won't succeed—at least not under his leadership. No new project under him has ever failed. Is it so hard to accept a negative opinion?"
His gentle words subtly rebuked Bennett. He then asked Sarah, "Don't you have your own judgment?"
Startled, Sarah recalled her doubts. "You're right. Hubby, I doubted your proposal from the start. You wouldn't listen, and insisted I ask Alexander. He agreed with me. Why didn't you trust us?"
Bennett's expression darkened. Carlos, watching in the rearview mirror, thought, This brother-in-law doesn't know his place. He's no match for Sarah, let alone Alexander, in business. Why is he so persistent? Anyone rejected by the Quirks would find a new project. We're not stopping him.
Bennett's temper flared. "Fine, I won't say anything more." Sarah wisely remained silent, showing her husband a modicum of respect.
