Chapter 341: A Hint of Warning

The atmosphere in Eric Quirk's home was tense. Eric had personally gone to the airport to greet David and his family. He had initially wanted to bring his wife, Joanna, but she was unwell. Instead, he went with his son, Dylan, and daughter, Janice.
Dylan wore a sour expression. "I still think today's reception was overly grand. If circumstances hadn't prevented it, were you planning a full-scale welcome? When Uncle David and his family returned before, this never happened. Is it solely because Alexander is here? Even if he's now head of Quirk Group, you and Uncle Felix are his elders. Was a personal airport trip necessary? I don't think he cared."
Eric, a stern father, retorted frostily, "Have you forgotten my teachings? Your words show no consideration. As elders, we bear some responsibility for Alexander's temperament. If David and Selena hadn't prioritized work for the Quirk family, Alexander wouldn't have been left alone at the estate so young, developing psychological issues from a lack of parental presence. He's finally overcome his trauma to visit his grandfather; this should be taken seriously."
Dylan, though hesitant to contradict his father, argued, "I find it strange that you chose someone psychologically unstable as heir. What's the rush? Waiting a few years wouldn't hurt. If Uncle David wants to step down, aren't there still you and Uncle Felix?"
"Shut up! He's your cousin. What are you thinking?" Eric's voice held a warning.
Dylan relented, "I was just curious Everyone says so."
Eric snorted. "People in Yrinas don't know Alexander firsthand, so they don't understand. Do you think David wanted to retire? He knew he couldn't match Alexander's capabilities. He had no choice. You've just started at Quirk Group; you lack the experience to judge him. Once you've worked with him, you'll understand."
Seeing his father's pride, Dylan clenched his fists. This usually reticent man was having this lengthy conversation because of Alexander. But Dylan couldn't accept it. He didn't believe his father, or himself, was inferior to Alexanderโthe only difference was Alexander's age.
"Don't you remember admiring him when you were younger?" Eric asked, worried about his son's arrogance.
Dylan dryly laughed. "No, I don't."
Eric reflected that this made sense; Alexander had become taciturn since Dylan developed memories.

"Anyway, learn from him and work closely with him. Do as he directs. You'll achieve more than our generation. Sarah and Felix's children joined a year before you, and they progressed quicklyโall thanks to Alexander. He may not show emotions, but he's beyond reproach in his treatment of family."
Dylan felt his blood pressure rising. "Other families have fierce internal strife. Why is the Quirk family filled with simpletons, easily manipulated by a few smart ones? But Alexander isn't smart in one areaโhe married a useless woman. Her family is disarrayed, she's uneducated, and rumored to be a comedian. In that, he lost to me forever."
He changed the subject. "Will you announce you and Mom adopting a goddaughter to the family? We were supposed to bring Ceci, but you said it wasn't appropriate."
Dylan's incessant complaining caused Janice, who had been silent, to flinch.
Eric's brows furrowed. "I'm still considering it. I'll discuss it with your grandfather. If he disagrees, we'll drop it."
"She saved Mom's life!" Dylan retorted furiously.
