Chapter 355: On His Deathbed
Upon hearing the news, the Quirk siblings frowned. The situation was distressing, but they concluded Benett was responsible for his own predicament.
Arriving at the hospital, they found Benett's parents berating Sarah. Nina, already aware of her father's accident, rushed to her mother's defense. "Grandpa, Grandma!"
The elders remained distraught, ignoring Nina and continuing to yell at Sarah.
"It's all your fault!" Vera wailed. "If you hadn't hesitated to contact the Quirk Group about the project, my son wouldn't have rushed to the construction site. You've brought this disaster on us! He's our only heir! If anything happens to him, I won't live! You'll pay with your life!" Terry, though silent, glared resentfully at Sarah through reddened eyes.
Had Isabella not known Benett's true nature, she might have believed his innocence based on this scene. Initially, the Quirks, especially David, considered the elders unreasonable and merely venting.
Carlos immediately steadied the distraught Sarah. His heart aching for his sister, he addressed the elders frankly. "I understand your worry, but my sister is equally worried. No one wanted this accident, and blaming her is unjust!"
The furious couple were interrupted by approaching footsteps. They turned to see a group of people.
"Sit down and wait," Christopher said, raising an eyebrow. "Otherwise, the hospital might ask us to leave."
"This hospital is Quirk Group-funded," Jake added. "Delaying Sarah hinders her from assisting Benett."
"There's a child present," Eula said, her displeasure evident. "Mind your language."
Their support silenced the elders, who realized they couldn't win this argument. They subsided.
With her family's support, Sarah quickly composed herself. She sought an update on Benett's condition. Though she knew she had to wait for the surgical results, she yearned for news. Soon, the operation ended. The doctor emerged, shaking his head. Benett was beyond saving. He advised the family to say their goodbyes.
A heart-wrenching cry echoed through the corridor.
The news of Benett's impending death affected even those who disliked him, including Isabella. They waited outside the ward.
Jake and Eula were sent to fetch Adam and Caitlin. Relatives from the Eaton family also arrived.
Alexander, Christopher, and Rosalie remained to monitor the situation while Alexander, Isabella, Evian, and Callahan stepped outside for air. Callahan carried Nina's bag, his sorrow evident.
In the hospital garden, Evian and Callahan sat on a bench. Isabella, restless, walked with Alexander. Her worry consumed her. "He's dying," she mused. "When should I tell Sarah about the affair? Would she blame me? Would she prefer to cling to her memories? But I wouldn't want to be deceived! Maybe I should hint to Alexander He can help me worry. We're married, and she's his cousin."
Alexander replied, "There's something I need to tell you"
Isabella looked up, but Alexander's gaze shifted to a nearby bench where a woman wept with her children and husband. The husband urged, "Sloane, shouldn't we go? He's dying!"
