Chapter 357: The Truth Revealed
"What? They're leaving everything to that little brat?" her brother exclaimed. "Didn't those old geezers despise him?"
"Are you dense? They're just putting on a show for Sarah and Nina. Sarah will feel reassured, indulge Benett's final whims, thinking it won't matter since it all belongs to her daughter. But once the assets are in the old geezers' hands, Sarah will have no control. Her daughter won't see a penny. We'll leave them with the task of caring for the old folks, hahaha!"
Realization dawned on her brother. "Doesn't this mean we've struck gold? But what if the Quirk family finds out? Won't they seek revenge?"
"We haven't done anything wrong. It's all on them. Afterward, we'll go abroad and wait for the old geezers to send us money. We'll enjoy ourselves." Sloane's excitement grew. Being Benett's mistress and appeasing him had been a hassle. Now he was gone, she could finally live the good life.
Isabella, finally understanding the divorce, felt furious, ready to spit blood. Alexander discreetly recorded their conversation.
As they laughed and chatted, they called the children to leave the hospital. Isabella then realized the children's earlier tears weren't for their dying father, but for their distressed mother. Reassured that everything would be alright, and their lives unchanged, they eagerly left the stifling hospital, even arguing about where to eatโtheir lack of decorum shocking. One child, however, asked, "But what if we run out of Dad's money? He won't be able to earn for us anymore."
"Don't worry, that day will never come. But if it does, remember, you have an elder sister in the Quirk family to take care of you. My children are destined to be pampered, provided for, and live a good life," Sloane declared. They left the hospital, their laughter echoing.
Isabella's face turned ashen. She gritted her teeth, turning to Alexander, speechless. He tucked away his phone. "Don't worry, even if Sarah was tricked, it'll take time for the lawyer to arrive. They won't succeed."
"Let's tell Sarah immediately!" Isabella exclaimed, grabbing his arm.
They froze. Nina stood nearby, unnoticed. She held Callahan's purse, having come to retrieve it.
A disaster. Nina had bought Benett a gift, kept in her bag. At this critical moment, she'd been driven from the ward as they persuaded Sarah to divorce. She'd wanted to give her father a last gift, butโฆ
The young girl was pale, her eyes bloodshot, her bewildered expression etched with tear tracks. Isabella rushed to her; Nina broke down. Sheโd clearly heard everything. At ten, how could she endure such a blow? Attempts to comfort her were futile. Alexander, unskilled at comforting children, stood silently. Nina's cries attracted Evian and Callahan.
"Haven't you left?" Evian asked, surprised. "What's going on?"
Callahan tried to soothe Nina, but she dashed into the hospital. Isabella and the others followed.
In the ward, they found Carlos, Christopher, and Rosalie, puzzled by their arrival and Nina's crying, running figure.
