Isabella’s mocking, sarcastic tone echoed through the hallway. Every word felt like a slap to Henry and Marjorie's faces. The indirect ridicule was more humiliating than a direct insult. Their faces paled, and they looked close to fainting from exasperation.
Finally, Isabella added, “I’m right, aren’t I, Mr. and Mrs. Cowell? It’s such a pity you didn’t pass the compatibility test.” Den almost wanted to give Isabella a thumbs-up; it was so satisfying.
Marjorie staggered and collapsed, trembling. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she avoided eye contact, yet still refused to admit fault. “It’s not like that… We’re old, so…” In fact, they hadn’t considered that at all. They’d taken Luna for granted, assuming her sacrifice was natural.
“Heh. You guys… have no shame,” Christopher said coldly, releasing Henry, who leaned against the wall, disheveled. Being insulted by someone younger was a tremendous humiliation.
Despite falling to the ground, Henry roared, “It’s not up to you outsiders to meddle in Cowell family affairs! Get out, all of you!”
Isabella retorted, “Oh, not only do I want to meddle, but I also intend to publicize this so everyone can see your behavior!”
“No! What are you trying to do?” Marjorie shrieked.
“What? I thought you were self-righteous! You think you did nothing wrong? Why are you so afraid others will know then?” Hayden chimed in mockingly. “You were just saying you wanted the school to see Luna’s true colors. Maybe you should look in the mirror first.”
Marjorie was stunned. Isabella and Hayden exchanged a glance, silently commending each other. Alexander, standing between them, felt left out. I helped too! he thought.
Henry exclaimed, “Have you all lost your minds? What does this have to do with you? Luna has already broken off her engagement with the Quirk family!”
In a cold voice, Christopher declared, “I’m responsible for the engagement being called off. I’m not worthy of her, and I deserve it. But let me make one thing clear: Luna’s affairs are my business!” He looked down condescendingly, his tone harsh. “There’s something you don’t know. Your daughter has an STD. She got it from Thomas. The reason she was attacked today was because she plotted to harm Luna with a syringe. She deliberately ambushed Luna, so she suffered the consequences. She loves to impersonate Luna, doesn’t she? She got what she deserved!”
Henry and Marjorie were dumbfounded. What disease? How did she get it?
“No! It can’t be!” Marjorie shrieked.
Suddenly, they remembered the doctors’ and nurses’ strange behavior, and the police mentioning important questions for Bianca unrelated to the stabbing. If Christopher was right, Bianca was intentionally spreading her disease—a crime.
“You’re practically monsters if you still think Luna should save Bianca,” Christopher added.
Henry and Marjorie’s faces flushed. Christopher ignored them; his purpose was served—to warn them.
“Remember: Keep your daughter far away from me and Luna. Never let her cross paths with us. If you dare intrude into Luna’s life again, I will use every connection and resource I have to make your family the laughingstock of the world! You’ll understand what it means to be scorned by everyone!”
Even without the Quirk family’s power, he could achieve that. A threat from an A-lister like Christopher intimidated even Hayden. Henry and Marjorie trembled despite their resentment.
“Fine. We won’t make her donate her kidney. Do you really have to sever our family ties?” Henry said.
“Stop talking about family ties. Have you no shame? Have you ever provided her with any familial love? Being associated with you is the last thing she wants. Wake up and face reality. Do you seriously think you can still play the role of her parents?” Christopher sneered. His decorum crumbled before this shameless couple.
“You…” Henry sputtered.
Marjorie wept. She turned to Alexander and asked, “Is this how the Quirk family educates their children? To openly threaten elders who have been family friends for four generations?”
With an expressionless face, Alexander asked, “I have a question, too. Is it part of your family’s teachings to let your contagious daughter knock on my brother’s door in the middle of the night? What was she planning to do?”
His flat voice drained the color from Henry and Marjorie’s faces. “How is that possible? That must be a misunderstanding!”
Alexander rose. “What you just heard was a warning from my brother, and now, this is a warning from our family. If you continue to go against my brother’s wishes, I will use the Quirk Group’s full force to suppress all Cowell family businesses until you three are kicked out. So… Mr. and Mrs. Cowell, for the sake of our longstanding friendship, please behave yourselves. We don’t want things to get ugly. I will inform Mr. Pedro.”
Henry and Marjorie stared at Alexander and Christopher in despair, their faces ashen. Under the pressure, they fell silent.
Soon, Bianca awoke from anesthesia. Rarely suffering, she wailed in discomfort, especially when touching the deep scar across half her face. Her love life and career were ruined. She saw her parents but, unlike before, they didn’t comfort her. Bianca realized something was wrong.
“You caught an STD? And you were planning to spread it to your sister and Christopher? Why? What has gotten into you?”
She screamed, “Ah! It’s all your fault! If only you hadn’t given birth to Luna! Yes, I wanted to infect them! If only Luna had called off the wedding sooner, I would have been with Christopher. If Christopher hadn’t refused to touch me, I wouldn’t have gone to Thomas. It’s all their fault! They’ve ruined me! I will make them pay!”
Smack! Henry slapped Bianca, causing her wound to bleed.
“Ah!” Bianca stared. “You hit me! You’ve never hit me before!”
“Honey, stop…” Marjorie tried to intervene.
Henry stared blankly at his palm, recalling hitting Luna countless times. He let out a weak, agonizing chuckle.
Soon, they received a call from Pedro, the head of the Cowell family. His angry tone warned them to pretend Luna never existed and to stop pestering her, or they would be kicked out.
After the call, Henry and Marjorie remained silent, looking at Bianca listlessly, like they used to overseas. But their emotional state had completely changed. The family of three vanished from Luna’s world.
Soon after, Luna contacted Christopher about his injury. Christopher, nursing his injuries at home, sprang up in excitement. I’m no longer blacklisted! She’s unblocked me!
Confirming Luna would visit, he dashed downstairs, startling Selena, Evian, and Isabella. They were excited too.
Christopher went outside to wait. The others waited at home, but Christopher returned soon, dragging someone in a huff—Rosalie.
Isabella checked the system. Rosalie had a boyfriend. Selena and Evian were shocked. Isabella’s inner thoughts continued: When Christopher went to wait for Luna, he saw Rosalie with a blond guy. The guy was smoking and caressing her thigh. Christopher flew into a rage. Selena and Evian widened their eyes. Wait, what? Our precious baby is tainted by some random man?
