Chapter 62: I Want This Dress
Before Jennie could investigate, she explained her reasons. After enjoying Jessica's embarrassment, Jennie smugly said, "This is because you tricked me into that gathering, letting those men force drinks on me. I almost got into serious trouble thanks to you. William said since you have the money to orchestrate such a scenario, he might as well cancel your card so you can't harm anyone else."
Jessica's expression changed. "I didn't! I didn't do it!"
Jennie scoffed, "I don't have any other enemies. You're the only one who would wish me ill. If it wasn't you, who else could it be?"
Isabella's thoughts, overheard by the Quirk family, revealed Jennie's scheme: she'd pretended to heed Jessica's invitation, then messaged William, faking distress, and staging the entire assault. Isabella thought, She's not just a mistress; her schemes run deep. She manipulated the situation to appear as though she was about to be assaulted, gaining sympathy and securing William's protection.
The Quirk family members were initially stunned, then frustrated by their inability to openly comment on the private matter. Isabella's thoughts continued: After this commotion, many in the industry will know Jennie is William's woman and won't dare approach her. Using this, William will further justify protecting his mistress. Tsk!
Selena and Evian scoffed. Jessica hadn't anticipated her card being canceled, especially after denying involvement. Jennie's questioning was an insult. Jessica believed William understood her and that they would never cross a line. But William had never trusted her, believing she would harm Jennie. His previous indifference was a form of punishment.
Jessica cared less about their years of friendship; she didn't want to lose face before Jennie, not even if it meant dying. Unable to raise the money, she called William repeatedly, but he didn't answer. She then called his assistant, receiving news that left her utterly defeated. Isabella thought, Relying on a man's credit card is foolish! Look at what her so-called husband has done—canceling her card for another woman! It's laughable. Their wealth should be shared, but he controls it all. Is that fair?
Selena and Evian nodded in disapproval. Alexander shivered. The reputations of husbands everywhere are under attack!
"Since you can't afford it, I'll take it, Jessica," Jennie said mockingly.
"I have no money, but do you? You left your marriage with nothing and don't even have a job. You're just trying to snatch this dress from me," Jessica retorted, clinging to the dress.
Jennie presented a membership card. The saleslady recognized it as a supplementary card to the store's VIP membership and verified it. Jessica remembered the store supplied celebrities with clothes, and William had the VIP card. She rarely bought such clothes; he'd never given her a supplementary card. Her eyes trembled as the saleslady confirmed, "It's Mr. Sawyer's supplementary card. You can sign for expenses."
The gossipers were astounded. Isabella's thoughts revealed William knew Jennie had no money and gave her a supplementary card to buy clothes, which was incredibly insulting to his wife. Jessica gasped. Jennie laughed, "What? Didn't you"
Isabella was furious. That's just low! Selena and Evian agreed.
Jennie posed with the dress, took a picture, and sent it to William with a voice message: "William, what do you think of this one?" He responded instantly, while Jessica couldn't reach him. Jessica's pupils constricted as she heard William's gentle voice. Isabella thought, Damn! What a scumbag! Evian and Selena agreed.
Jennie replied, "What are you talking about, William? I only thought this dress would suit Jessica, which I plan to give her. After all, she must have been upset because of our affairs recently." William responded, "No need to give it to her. It doesn't fit her. You look better in it, and she should apologize to you."
Isabella thought, Aren't everyone's breasts just breasts? Alexander didn't understand, but Selena and Evian agreed.
"I'm sorry. I originally wanted to offer you this dress, but since William disagrees, I won't." Before Jennie could gloat, Jessica slapped her. Jennie's sunglasses and phone fell. Everyone was shocked, then relieved.
Jennie shrieked, "How dare you hit me!" Isabella shouted, "Hey, you're disturbing the business here!" The salesladies intervened.
Jennie noticed a man and a woman, but focused on Jessica. Seeing Jessica's tears, Jennie sneered, "Since William thinks I look better in this dress, I'll take it." She planned to use the dress to taunt Jessica.
But the rude woman shouted again, "This dress, I'm taking—uhm, I want it. Rumor has it my husband owns this mall."
