Chapter 95: Resignation of an Employee
Mirabelle hesitated to make a quick decision regarding Maverick. Previously, as long as Hendrick didn't dismiss her, she could maintain her ambiguous position. However, Hendrick's magnanimous behavior worried her; if Maverick learned the truth, she would be in a difficult situation. Therefore, she chose to concede to gain advantage and avoid the topic.
"Hendrick, please don't say this. Seeing you like this, I…" Mirabelle's voice choked with tears, her struggle evident.
Hendrick said, "Mirabelle, don't be sad. Whenever you need me, I'll be there for you."
"Stop talking nonsense."
"It's the truth. Even if you're with Maverick, I'll always be there for you." Hendrick's words held unspoken implications.
Mirabelle initially believed she had completely won Hendrick over, transforming him into a loyal and devoted man. I didn't know I was this impressive. This doesn't sound right. Isabella frowned. Could Hendrick remain Mirabelle's fallback option even after she and Maverick reconciled? Ridiculous!
In the private room, Christopher observed the chilly interaction between Danielle and Maverick as they returned separately. He overheard Isabella's internal monologue. He listened intently until Isabella's disgusted mental commentary began: Crazy Hendrick, you truly are impressive! You were really planning to support them while playing the role of… Christopher silently shared her disgust, feeling as though he'd witnessed the obsessive behavior of a crazed fan. He then looked sympathetically at Maverick, engrossed in his phone. He's foolish, but surely he doesn't deserve this?
Chapter 95 (Continued)
Shortly afterward, the remaining three returned, ending the awkward gathering. Christopher and Isabella witnessed a meaningful exchange of glances between Maverick and Mirabelle at the entrance before they departed in separate cars. Their own car arrived moments later, revealing Alexander waiting to drive them.
In the car, Alexander asked, "What happened today?"
Isabella eagerly recounted the events, her eyes sparkling. Alexander listened attentively, occasionally nodding or furrowing his brow. Her only disappointment was her inability to reveal the most explosive information from the Gossip System.
Hayden, smirking slightly, commented, "So, your 'stomach ache' was actually a gossip-gathering session. And the gossip? Shockingly explosive. Even for a seasoned entertainment insider…" Isabella chuckled softly.
Hayden then remarked, "In that case, I can try to win Danielle over now."
"Huh? Hayden, you're into Danielle? Are you seriously planning to pursue her?" Isabella asked, astonished.
Hayden was startled. "What nonsense? I'm talking about recruiting her for our agency, to mentor you."
Isabella realized he intended to poach Danielle. After a moment, she smiled. Danielle had previously cared for Maverick excessively, acting as a doting mother. If Danielle became her agent, Isabella could become a carefree artist.
Alexander and Christopher were speechless. Even the possibility of such an ambitious agent managing such an artist made them feel uneasy.
Hayden, seeing the opportunity, directly asked Alexander and Christopher. Christopher had no objections, but Alexander pondered for a moment.
"Mr. Alexander, are you worried about something?" Hayden asked. "Concerned Danielle is too emotionally attached to break her contract with Maverick?"
Isabella said, "That won't happen."
Alexander nodded. "Danielle is intelligent and ambitious. She's shown great benevolence toward Maverick, but Maverick will face future troubles. She won't stay in that predicament; she'll likely leave. The only question is whether she can do so unscathed."
Christopher said, "Regarding the bet, if we convince her, we can help cover her losses."
Alexander shook his head. "Money is not an issue."
Isabella asked, "Then what's the problem?"
Alexander's gaze was intense. "You mentioned Hendrick's promise to reunite Maverick and Mirabelle, ensuring no online backlash. What about that?" The three exchanged bewildered glances.
There must be a scapegoat to absorb the public's anger. It wouldn't be Hendrick, nor Maverick. And certainly not Mirabelle. Who else? Especially considering certain past events
Alexander paused, then continued quietly, "No…Surely not. Even if he was the next person…" He wouldn't stoop to repaying kindness with such cruelty. It wouldn't have happened if his sister hadn't cooperated. Didn't Mirabelle already take the fall? Christopher frowned.
Alexander said, "Of course, this is just a possibility. If we sign Danielle, this risk must be considered."
Hayden cleared his throat. "I believe we can put the matter of poaching Danielle on hold for now." From a managerial standpoint, Hayden wouldn't want an agent riddled with scandal. If Alexander's prediction came true, Danielle would likely leave the entertainment industry. However, Hayden was unaware of the less-than-compliant nature of his artists.
Isabella grinned, clutching her phone. "Don't worry. If it comes to that, I have a solution."
Christopher announced, "About the script…I've decided to change it."
Isabella was stunned. "What? I just memorized the lines!"
Christopher smiled, raising an eyebrow. "Don't worry, just go with the flow. You'll enjoy the performance." Isabella wondered if he was telling the truth.
Taylor and Riley panicked as Team A-list switched to another confidential script. They feared a repeat of the previous situation, which had led to the demise of Team Young Again. They hoped there wouldn't be conflict between Team Duo Alpha and Team A-list. Holding hands, they braced themselves for the third episode's live broadcast.
Backstage, greetings were exchanged. Isabella escaped rehearsals to enjoy some gossip. Danielle, usually eager to secure the confidential script for Maverick, only performed her necessary duties. Isabella observed that Danielle seemed like an employee about to resign, doing the bare minimum. Yet, beneath her cold exterior, she remained warm-hearted, still concerned about Maverick's fans. Then, she overheard Danielle and Maverick arguing. The tension between them silenced the bustling staff around them.
