Chapter 60

โ€œJosie really has some skills. It hasnโ€™t even been that long, and sheโ€™s already gotten close to Sean. Aiden, we all knew she used to be interested in you.โ€

Kyle shot Aiden a disdainful look. โ€œI canโ€™t believe you used to defend her all the time. Turns out, sheโ€™s just another flirt!โ€

โ€œDo you even know what โ€˜flirtโ€™ means?โ€ Zoey stepped forward, blocking Kyleโ€™s path. โ€œLet me remind you, Josie never liked Aiden. And even if she did, itโ€™s completely normal for her to grab a meal or chat with Sean now that theyโ€™re on the same team. So why is it suddenly all about Josie trying to seduce Sean in your version?โ€

Kyle, clearly unconvinced, scoffed. โ€œShe never used to dress like this or smile at people all the time. If thatโ€™s not flirting, then what is? I think sheโ€™s just shamelessโ€“โ€

Slap!

Zoey slapped him across the face without hesitation. โ€œHonestly, I canโ€™t expect anything good from people like you. Itโ€™s unbelievable that Josie used to stand by you so loyally, and this is how you repay her.โ€

โ€œBitch! How dare you!โ€ Kyle raised his hand, ready to strike back, but Aiden grabbed his wrist and stopped him.

โ€œEnough!โ€ Aidenโ€™s cold gaze landed on Zoey. โ€œSo itโ€™s you? You think pulling this stunt will make me remember you? Stop dreaming. I, Aiden, would never look at someone like youโ€“all looks and no substance. Kyle, letโ€™s go!โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆ.โ€ Zoeyโ€™s lips trembled with rage.

โ€œZoey.โ€ Josie stepped in, placing a calming hand on Zoey. โ€œDonโ€™t let people like this get to you. Itโ€™s not worth it.โ€

When Aiden saw Josie, his cold expression deepened, but he didnโ€™t say a word. He turned to leave.

โ€œApologize.โ€ Sean crossed his arms and stood in Aidenโ€™s way.

Aiden, usually dressed in white with a friendly smile for everyone, now faced off with Sean, who was in black athletic gear and didnโ€™t show much emotion.

The two of them, campus heartthrobs from rival departments, locked eyes in the bustling cafeteria, sizing each other up without a word.

โ€œI suggest you stay out of this,โ€ Aiden said, his brow furrowing slightly. โ€œSheโ€™s not going to help you, and youโ€™ll never beat me.โ€

Sean sneered. โ€œI donโ€™t rely on anyone. Only weak people think like that.โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ Gavin stepped forward, but Claire gave him a cold, dismissive look. โ€œWhat, you want to play hero? Looking for a fight?โ€

It was well known that Delilah and David didnโ€™t get along, and their students often clashed. But since their majors didnโ€™t overlap much, the two groups usually stayed out of each otherโ€™s way. This kind of direct confrontation, however, was a first. Onlookers were already whisperingโ€“this might turn into a fight.

Josie stepped in front of Sean and Claire, blocking their gaze. She turned to face Aiden, her voice cold and composed. โ€œAiden, there may have been some misunderstandings between us. Since there are so many people here today, Iโ€™d like to clarify. When we were on the same team, I did a lot of things for youโ€“made you water, wiped down tables, organized materials, and so on. But all of that came from the fact that, when I first started university, you were the one who helped me. Later, you recommended me for Professor Lawsonโ€™s team selection, and I was grateful. Because of that, I respected you after joining the team. But that respect and obedience were never because I liked you. I know my own worth, and I would never fall for someone who isnโ€™t on my level."

Her words were cold and emotionless, without a hint of warmth.

Aiden didnโ€™t care whether she liked him or not, but when their eyes met, something in his chest tightened. It wasnโ€™t just a passing discomfortโ€“he felt it spreading through his whole body, a sensation so intense that it almost knocked him off balance.
