Chapter 60
โJosie really has some skills. It hasnโt even been that long, and sheโs already gotten close to Sean. Aiden, we all knew she used to be interested in you.โ
Kyle shot Aiden a disdainful look. โI canโt believe you used to defend her all the time. Turns out, sheโs just another flirt!โ
โDo you even know what โflirtโ means?โ Zoey stepped forward, blocking Kyleโs path. โLet me remind you, Josie never liked Aiden. And even if she did, itโs completely normal for her to grab a meal or chat with Sean now that theyโre on the same team. So why is it suddenly all about Josie trying to seduce Sean in your version?โ
Kyle, clearly unconvinced, scoffed. โShe never used to dress like this or smile at people all the time. If thatโs not flirting, then what is? I think sheโs just shamelessโโ
Slap!
Zoey slapped him across the face without hesitation. โHonestly, I canโt expect anything good from people like you. Itโs unbelievable that Josie used to stand by you so loyally, and this is how you repay her.โ
โBitch! How dare you!โ Kyle raised his hand, ready to strike back, but Aiden grabbed his wrist and stopped him.
โEnough!โ Aidenโs cold gaze landed on Zoey. โSo itโs you? You think pulling this stunt will make me remember you? Stop dreaming. I, Aiden, would never look at someone like youโall looks and no substance. Kyle, letโs go!โ
โYouโฆ.โ Zoeyโs lips trembled with rage.
โZoey.โ Josie stepped in, placing a calming hand on Zoey. โDonโt let people like this get to you. Itโs not worth it.โ
When Aiden saw Josie, his cold expression deepened, but he didnโt say a word. He turned to leave.
โApologize.โ Sean crossed his arms and stood in Aidenโs way.
Aiden, usually dressed in white with a friendly smile for everyone, now faced off with Sean, who was in black athletic gear and didnโt show much emotion.
The two of them, campus heartthrobs from rival departments, locked eyes in the bustling cafeteria, sizing each other up without a word.
โI suggest you stay out of this,โ Aiden said, his brow furrowing slightly. โSheโs not going to help you, and youโll never beat me.โ
Sean sneered. โI donโt rely on anyone. Only weak people think like that.โ
โYouโฆโ Gavin stepped forward, but Claire gave him a cold, dismissive look. โWhat, you want to play hero? Looking for a fight?โ
It was well known that Delilah and David didnโt get along, and their students often clashed. But since their majors didnโt overlap much, the two groups usually stayed out of each otherโs way. This kind of direct confrontation, however, was a first. Onlookers were already whisperingโthis might turn into a fight.
Josie stepped in front of Sean and Claire, blocking their gaze. She turned to face Aiden, her voice cold and composed. โAiden, there may have been some misunderstandings between us. Since there are so many people here today, Iโd like to clarify. When we were on the same team, I did a lot of things for youโmade you water, wiped down tables, organized materials, and so on. But all of that came from the fact that, when I first started university, you were the one who helped me. Later, you recommended me for Professor Lawsonโs team selection, and I was grateful. Because of that, I respected you after joining the team. But that respect and obedience were never because I liked you. I know my own worth, and I would never fall for someone who isnโt on my level."
Her words were cold and emotionless, without a hint of warmth.
Aiden didnโt care whether she liked him or not, but when their eyes met, something in his chest tightened. It wasnโt just a passing discomfortโhe felt it spreading through his whole body, a sensation so intense that it almost knocked him off balance.
