Chapter 61

Josie pulled Zoey closer to her.

โ€œZoey, yes, sheโ€™s the campus beauty, but sheโ€™s not just a pretty face. Her academic record has always been in the top ten of her year. Since sophomore year, sheโ€™s been publishing papers in various medical journals. By junior year, she was already secured as an intern at Aloville Central Hospital. Honestly, sheโ€™s more accomplished than most of her peers in the same field. You donโ€™t have to like her, but you have no right to insult her. As for Aiden, Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s because youโ€™ve been pursued by so many people, but you seem to have lost yourself. Your confidence is bordering on narcissism. Do you really think every girl is going to fall for you?โ€

A murmur rippled through the crowd. Aidenโ€™s face turned red, then pale, and his fists clenched tightly.

Josieโ€”how dare you publicly call me narcissistic!

As he thought back to everything that had happened, he refused to believe that Josie hadnโ€™t liked him. In his mind, this was just her way of saving face. She was obviously playing hard to get, thinking it would make him notice her more.

What a joke!

Suddenly, Aiden let out a laugh.

โ€œI mustโ€™ve been spending too much time in the lab if I didnโ€™t notice someone was pursuing me. Josie, are you really trying to joke with me? You know how I am. I only focus on my academic work and donโ€™t care about other things. Zoey once confessed to me, but I turned her down firmly. Because I want to focus on my studies, not start a relationship too early. I didnโ€™t want to distract Zoey from her work either. What happened today is probably just a misunderstanding. I was only worried she might be too persistent, so I spoke a little more harshly. But I did it for her own goodโ€“I want her to focus on her studies, not waste energy on someone else. Josie, weโ€™re seniors. We should be looking out for each other. Why misunderstand me like this? You know who I am, donโ€™t you?โ€

She couldnโ€™t care less. Josie sneered. โ€œTo be honest, I really donโ€™t know you at all.โ€

I have no idea you are this hypocritical and narcissistic! she thought.

โ€œHowever, Iโ€™m not interested in getting to know you anymore. Since you say itโ€™s a misunderstanding, letโ€™s just treat it as one. Butโ€ฆโ€

Her gaze turned cold as she fixed it on Kyle. โ€œAs for you, consider that slap from earlier as my doing. No need for an apology. From now on, keep your mouth shut. Donโ€™t let me hear any more insults about me. Otherwise, it wonโ€™t just be a slap next time. Know anything about defamation?โ€

โ€œJosie!โ€ Gavin stepped forward.

โ€œKyle was just concerned for you. Donโ€™t take it so personally. We, as your seniors, are only looking out for you. Thereโ€™s no need to be so petty.โ€

Gavin, always the one to smooth things over, smiled at Josie. In truth, he didnโ€™t want to get involved, but she still had something over him.

But Josie didnโ€™t even spare him a glance. She grabbed Zoey and Claireโ€™s arms. โ€œLetโ€™s go!โ€

With Sean leading the way, they quickly left the cafeteria. Once they left, the onlookers scattered as well. But no one dared post about it online, mainly because Aiden and Sean were two people no one wanted to mess with.

โ€œJosie really has changed!โ€ Aidenโ€™s expression darkened, and a thin, cold smile appeared on his lips.

Kyle, still fuming from the slap, clenched his fists. โ€œAre we just going to let this go? Sheโ€™s the one with questionable behavior, and now she wonโ€™t let anyone talk about it?โ€

โ€œBetter use your head!โ€ Aiden shot him a look of disdain. โ€œYou can talk about Josie all you want, but you canโ€™t slander her personal life. Do you really not know who she is?โ€

โ€œBut what about the way she acted with Sean just now?โ€ Kyle grumbled. To be honest, heโ€™d never seen Josie act like that before.
