Chapter 61
Josie pulled Zoey closer to her.
โZoey, yes, sheโs the campus beauty, but sheโs not just a pretty face. Her academic record has always been in the top ten of her year. Since sophomore year, sheโs been publishing papers in various medical journals. By junior year, she was already secured as an intern at Aloville Central Hospital. Honestly, sheโs more accomplished than most of her peers in the same field. You donโt have to like her, but you have no right to insult her. As for Aiden, Iโm not sure if itโs because youโve been pursued by so many people, but you seem to have lost yourself. Your confidence is bordering on narcissism. Do you really think every girl is going to fall for you?โ
A murmur rippled through the crowd. Aidenโs face turned red, then pale, and his fists clenched tightly.
Josieโhow dare you publicly call me narcissistic!
As he thought back to everything that had happened, he refused to believe that Josie hadnโt liked him. In his mind, this was just her way of saving face. She was obviously playing hard to get, thinking it would make him notice her more.
What a joke!
Suddenly, Aiden let out a laugh.
โI mustโve been spending too much time in the lab if I didnโt notice someone was pursuing me. Josie, are you really trying to joke with me? You know how I am. I only focus on my academic work and donโt care about other things. Zoey once confessed to me, but I turned her down firmly. Because I want to focus on my studies, not start a relationship too early. I didnโt want to distract Zoey from her work either. What happened today is probably just a misunderstanding. I was only worried she might be too persistent, so I spoke a little more harshly. But I did it for her own goodโI want her to focus on her studies, not waste energy on someone else. Josie, weโre seniors. We should be looking out for each other. Why misunderstand me like this? You know who I am, donโt you?โ
She couldnโt care less. Josie sneered. โTo be honest, I really donโt know you at all.โ
I have no idea you are this hypocritical and narcissistic! she thought.
โHowever, Iโm not interested in getting to know you anymore. Since you say itโs a misunderstanding, letโs just treat it as one. Butโฆโ
Her gaze turned cold as she fixed it on Kyle. โAs for you, consider that slap from earlier as my doing. No need for an apology. From now on, keep your mouth shut. Donโt let me hear any more insults about me. Otherwise, it wonโt just be a slap next time. Know anything about defamation?โ
โJosie!โ Gavin stepped forward.
โKyle was just concerned for you. Donโt take it so personally. We, as your seniors, are only looking out for you. Thereโs no need to be so petty.โ
Gavin, always the one to smooth things over, smiled at Josie. In truth, he didnโt want to get involved, but she still had something over him.
But Josie didnโt even spare him a glance. She grabbed Zoey and Claireโs arms. โLetโs go!โ
With Sean leading the way, they quickly left the cafeteria. Once they left, the onlookers scattered as well. But no one dared post about it online, mainly because Aiden and Sean were two people no one wanted to mess with.
โJosie really has changed!โ Aidenโs expression darkened, and a thin, cold smile appeared on his lips.
Kyle, still fuming from the slap, clenched his fists. โAre we just going to let this go? Sheโs the one with questionable behavior, and now she wonโt let anyone talk about it?โ
โBetter use your head!โ Aiden shot him a look of disdain. โYou can talk about Josie all you want, but you canโt slander her personal life. Do you really not know who she is?โ
โBut what about the way she acted with Sean just now?โ Kyle grumbled. To be honest, heโd never seen Josie act like that before.
