Chapter 105
“You should try some too.”
Suzanne snapped out of her thoughts and saw the piece of toasted chicken Austin was holding up to her lips. She froze slightly when she realized he had just worded the fork in his hand. Yet, almost against her will, she opened her mouth to take a bite. Then, she lowered her head and chewed slowly.
Austin's eyes contained an amused glint as he picked up another piece and tried to feed her again. But Suzanne quickly shook her head and refused. “I’ll eat by myself.”
They were in a contract marriage, after all. There was no need for such intimacy. Rather than letting him feed her the whole time, Suzanne preferred to simply pick up the spoon and eat on her own.
Austin raised an eyebrow but didn’t comment. Suzanne might seem composed, but when it came to things like this, she was easily embarrassed.
Finally, she started to feel more at ease. As they ate, they gradually fell into an easy conversation, and the atmosphere felt unexpectedly comfortable.
At the reception area of the spacious Hall Corporation lobby, Sonia paced back and forth anxiously. She wasn’t sure how Gabriel would handle the situation. Even though she had refused to apologize earlier, his words still left her feeling uneasy.
Just then, the elevator doors opened. All eyes turned toward the elevator as Gabriel stepped out. Many of the onlookers who had seen the earlier scene had refused to leave. Some had lingered just to see how Gabriel would handle the situation.
Gabriel walked up to Sonia with a sullen expression and said coldly, “Hand in your resignation and leave.”
Sonia’s expression changed instantly. She blurted, “What…?”
What kind of a joke was this? He was telling her to resign? Sonia had pleaded with her father for ages to get into Hall Corporation, and Gabriel was a mere assistant. Had he gone insane? Even the surrounding crowd was stunned. Just who was that woman from earlier to have Walter Beasley’s daughter fired over this? He was a major shareholder in Hall Corporation! Sonia suppressed the anger boiling within her and said icily, “Mr. Burton, I’ll say it again—she’s clearly the one at fault; she can’t see Mr. Hall without an appointment!” She had been following company policy, so what exactly had she done wrong?
Gabriel scoffed and looked at Sonia coldly. He said, in a stern voice, “I’ve already checked the surveillance footage. Do you still think this is about company policy?”
If she hadn’t acted out of jealousy, none of this would have happened. He had turned a blind eye and pretended not to see how Sonia treated other women who had ulterior motives in the past. But this time, she had the nerve to stir up trouble in front of Suzanne.
“Just resign and leave. Don’t make me repeat myself,” Gabriel said.
Sonia panicked when she realized Gabriel was serious about firing her. Stepping forward with her chin lifted high and her face full of arrogance, she glared at Gabriel and snapped, “How dare you! Do you even know who my father is?”
Gabriel had to be unaware; if he knew Walter was her father, there was no way he would do this!
But Gabriel simply looked at her in disdain and said, “Anyone who makes a mistake has to face the consequences, and you’re no exception! I’m firing you because of your attitude problems. You were accusing others of seduction without any proof.”
Even so, she still didn’t see the problem with what she had done. If it weren’t for the fact that she was a shareholder’s daughter, he would have had the security guards remove her. He would be wasting time arguing with her.
Gabriel was running out of patience.
Sonia completely lost it at that. So, he knew who her father was and still dared to fire her? She glared at Gabriel furiously and yelled, “She’s obviously trying to get close to Mr. Hall! How am I…”
