Chapter 170

It was obvious that the driver of that black car had come to take their lives. Suzanne and Yassine also emerged from the car. They watched the black car drive away, a dim look in their eyes. In a cold voice, Yasmine asked, “Did you guys manage to see who it was?”

Austin shook his head. “Nope. We’ll have to look further into this.” This place wasn’t well-lit, and that car did not have a plate number. It would probably take quite some effort to investigate.

Austin lowered his head and pulled out his cell phone to send Gabriel a message: “Look into a black car on Maple Hill in Coniston at 9:10 pm.” He then sent Gabriel further details, such as the make of the car. He soon got a reply from Gabriel: “Got it.”

After putting his phone away, Austin went to Suzanne and took her hand. Giving her hand a squeeze, he asked in a deep and concerned voice, “Are you alright?” It was obvious that he was worried about her being frightened by the incident.

Suzanne shook her head: “I’m fine.”

Aaron went up to Yasmine and put his arm around her shoulders. He studied her with a worried gaze. Yasmine shook her head gently at Aaron to indicate that she was fine. Then, Aaron said in a firm voice, “Since everyone is fine, let’s go. They shouldn’t stay here for too long.”

The four of them got back into the car and continued their journey at a steady pace, keeping an eye out for any cars behind them. Once Aaron saw that the car was no longer following them, he breathed a sigh of relief as he continued driving toward Fabian’s place.

The Zander residence was built right on the mountain. Its location, perched on a cliff, gave it a grand and magnanimous look. The yard was surrounded by a stone wall with an electric fence. Two stone lion sculptures sat by the gate, looking extremely powerful.

As Suzanne and the rest of them arrived at the gate, a soldier in military uniform greeted them. The soldier walked toward them and said politely, “Please present…”

Aaron wasn’t surprised. As usual, he presented his identification for registration. After that, Yasmine, Suzanne, and Austin did the same. They were only allowed to pass after the procedure was completed. Aaron drove the car into the residence.

The furniture in the living room was carved out of mahogany, giving the room a humble yet splendid look. The small cypress tree in a pot highlighted the magnificence of the place. When Aaron and his companions entered the living room, Fabian’s butler walked toward them and nodded courteously.

Nate Zirgies was dressed in a neat suit. Even though his hair was graying, his eyes were full of life. He went up to them. “Welcome, Mr. Stanton, M. Hall, and Ms. Hall,”

Clearly, Nate knew Austin. But when he saw Suzanne, he looked surprised. Glancing at Aaron with a perplexed look on his face, he asked, “This is…?” With a warm gesture, Aaron looked toward Suzanne and introduced, “This is the doctor I’ve… to check on Mr. Zander.”

Before they entered Fabian’s room, they could already hear him crying out in pain. The sound of his cries was so heart-wrenching that it filled their hearts with worry. Even so, he prompted politely, “Alright. This way, please.” Aaron’s frown deepened as he hurried toward Fabian’s room.

A warm light was on, and the simple, wooden furniture in the room brightened the place. At first glance, Suzanne spotted an elderly man curled up in pain on the bed. Wires from various monitoring devices had fallen to the floor due to his struggles.

A few doctors in lab coats stood with their backs to the rest of the group. Each of them was panicking and at a loss for what to do, so much so that they hadn’t realized a group of people had walked in.

One of the doctors, Sandword, didn’t know what else to do. He looked toward the doctor in glasses next to him. I said urgently, “Will, we should just give him pain relief. I’m afraid that his heart won’t be able to take it if he goes on like this.” William’s head was covered in sweat, and Fabian’s heart rate was increasing; the only choice was to administer painkillers to him.
