Chapter 610

In the side hall, the two women sat facing each other. Carissa eyed the dagger pressed against Violaโ€™s neck and frowned.

โ€œAre you really going to keep holding that dagger to your throat? If you truly want to die, throw yourself against the gates of the Hell Monarch Estate. All this drama is ridiculous.โ€

Viola wiped her tears, her face pale and stubborn. โ€œCarissa, destroying someoneโ€™s marriage is a sin! Youโ€™re vicious.โ€

Carissa sat up straight. โ€œWhen did I destroy your marriage? Whatever happens between you and Barrett is your business. Youโ€™ve always had a poor sense of right and wrong. When Valor Estate was attacked, I saved you all.โ€

Violaโ€™s voice turned cold. โ€œThatโ€™s beside the point! You didnโ€™t save us for my sake. I donโ€™t owe you any gratitude.โ€

Carissa laughed incredulously. โ€œI donโ€™t need your gratitude. What have I done to ruin your marriage?โ€

Viola gritted her teeth and spat, โ€œDonโ€™t pretend to be innocent! You know what you told Thomas. You canโ€™t stand to see me happy! You found out Thomas and I were reconciling, so you dug up dirt on me and exposed everything. Now, heโ€™s looking to marry someone else. Are you satisfied?โ€

โ€œThomas?โ€ Carissa realized this wasn't about Barrett. She recalled a moment between Viola and Silas at Arcane Sanctum. It clicked. Viola had tried to rekindle her relationship with Thomas, but heโ€™d discovered her affair with Silas and decided to marry someone else to end her hopes. Viola believed Carissa had exposed her secret.

Carissa was shocked. Viola was pregnant with Barrettโ€™s child, yet still wanted Thomas. Was she considering an abortion and divorce?

Carissa shook her head. โ€œViola, I didnโ€™t tell Thomas anything. And the notion that I canโ€™t stand to see you happy is absurd. Whether youโ€™re happy or not is none of my business. Frankly, Iโ€™d prefer to keep my distance from all of you.โ€

Viola sneered. โ€œYou did it but wonโ€™t admit it? Youโ€™re a coward! If you owned up to it, I might have respected you. I saw you with Silas at Arcane Sanctum. You went to snitch, and now you pretend to be innocent? Youโ€™re disgusting and hypocritical.โ€

Silas? Carissaโ€™s suspicion was confirmed.

โ€ฆ[The added text seems to be a continuation of the conversation, but it's poorly integrated and contains errors. The following is a cleaned version of that addition]โ€ฆ

Carissa's voice turned icy. "Pregnant with Barrettโ€™s child, but now that Thomas got a promotion, you want to crawl back to him? What do you take Thomas for? Before you came here, I knew nothing about you and Silas. But now, I know you had an affair, and Thomas found out."

โ€œShut up!โ€ Violaโ€™s eyes burned with anger. She pointed the dagger at Carissa, tears streaming down her face. โ€œWhat do you know? I worried for him daily when he was on the battlefield! I couldnโ€™t eat or sleep. I made one mistakeโ€”once! Afterward, I was dutiful to my mother-in-law, got along with my sisters-in-law, and worked tirelessly for the Farrell family. But because of one slip, Iโ€™m damned for eternity? Soon, everyone will know. I canโ€™t live with this shame! Carissa, youโ€™ve ruined me!โ€

Carissa flicked her wrist, numbing Violaโ€™s hand. The dagger clattered to the floor. Viola lunged for it, but Carissa kicked it out of reach.

โ€œIโ€™ll kill you!โ€ Viola, humiliated and furious, lunged at Carissa.

Carissa twisted Violaโ€™s arm, immobilizing her. Viola cried out in pain.

โ€œIt hurts! Let me go!โ€

Carissa said coldly, โ€œStop feeling sorry for yourself. Youโ€™re acting like you did everything for the Farrell family. But not even a month after Thomasโ€™s death was reported, you took his death pension and two shops and ran back to your parentsโ€™ house.

After betraying him, how could you take his money? Youโ€™re shameless and brainless. You didnโ€™t even figure out who told Thomas before making a scene. If Thomas really wanted to expose it, he wouldnโ€™t be looking for marriage candidates. He would confront you directly.

His inaction means he doesnโ€™t want to dredge up that ugly matter. He was trying to save you some dignity. Youโ€™re a fool. Instead of being grateful, you throw a tantrum. Now, everyone will know.โ€
