Chapter 664

After Alice and Opal departed, Violet briefed Thomas on Darin, revealing schemes involving Yuvan, Harvey, and Eleanor. She carefully omitted her and Carissa's Emberfest Festival plans. However, Thomas, combining Violet's information with his own investigation, neared the truth. He surmised their inquiries would begin with Eleanor, given Yuvan's reliance on her and Harvey in the capital; Eleanor's status as a grand princess afforded her unique advantages in Valken, where Yuvan's influence stemmed. Without Eleanor's support, Yuvan's power would be significantly diminished. Harvey, operating in the shadows, proved difficult to track.

It suddenly occurred to Thomas why Rafael had instructed the Septimus Tetra reconnaissance team to limit contact with the Hell Monarch Estate. Initially, he believed it was a precaution against the king's suspicions. He now understood it allowed them greater operational freedom without raising red flags. Though unstated by Rafael or Violet, Thomas suspected the team served as the prince's safety net.

He reviewed the situation. "So, Henry doesn't approve of my marrying Darin, does he?"

Violet explained, "He's worried about involving his family. If Darin makes mistakes, the Farrells will blame the Marquis of Grovehill's family. He's protecting his own interests."

Thomas nodded. "Understood. I'll postpone the marriage. I need to ensure the grand princess remains unsuspecting, and I can't let Henry rest easy."

Violet smiled. "I came to tell you this, but I didn't expect to see Darin. Henry mentioned she was from a defunct performance troupe, forced to fend for herself. She encountered bandits before Eleanor rescued her."

"We can't fully trust Henry. We need to investigate Darin's background. Luckily, Kyle's at the Hell Monarch Estate. I'll ask him to paint her portrait and have someone in Stonebridge County inquire about her. Former troupe members should still be around, making it relatively easy to find information."

"Good. You should return quickly," Thomas urged. "If you need us, come immediately."

Violet chuckled. "What's the rush? I'd prefer a few days of peace."

With a wave, she left. Thomas watched her go, then smiled bitterly. Peace? Their restlessness was maddening. What was the king planning? His prolonged inactionโ€”no official appointmentโ€”was suspicious. Was he observing, waiting to see who contacted them?

Thomas considered this justified suspicion. Rafael likely saw through it, explaining his cautionary advice. After reflection, Thomas decided to inform his mother and sister-in-law of the proposal, buying time without outright acceptance or rejection.

Alice, while not fully comprehending the subtleties, trusted her son's judgment and agreed.

Meanwhile, Violet returned to the Hell Monarch Estate. Hearing the study door open, she hurried in, intending to ask Kyle for assistance after completing Jacob's tasks. She found Rafael and Carissa already there, amidst portraits adorning the walls.

Carissa stood motionless before a painting, her gaze unwavering. Violet approached, following her gaze. The beauty mark on the woman's upper lip stopped Violet cold. Examining the other portraits, she noticed variations in style and features. A painting near the desk finally revealed a stunning revelation.
