Chapter 854
Viola yelped, quickly dodging a flying cup before falling to the ground. Days of hard work had already caused a dull ache in her lower abdomen, and the fall sent a rush of blood flowing down her legs. Rebecca froze in shock.
Tara immediately called for help to transport Viola to Grace Mansion, then summoned a physician and a midwife. Barrett was urgently summoned. By the time he arrived, the medical professionals were already present.
The baby was premature and breech. Viola’s fall had caused bleeding and her water to break, prompting the midwife to break into a cold sweat.
Outside the delivery room, Barrett was consumed with worry. This was his first child—he was about to become a father, and his heart had been brimming with hope. He'd endured Viola's presence for this baby, avoiding arguments and disputes. He never imagined such an accident at this critical moment.
The physician, a renowned master of obstetrics in the capital, checked Viola's condition before retreating behind a screen to give instructions. But the dire situation left him uncertain.
Six hours passed, and her cervix hadn't fully dilated. Labor-inducing medication had been administered, causing Viola waves of agonizing pain. She was nearing her breaking point.
Struggling to breathe, her hoarse voice cried out, "Barrett, please bring my family here…"
Barrett immediately sent for her family to Silverstone Estate. Tara assisted in the delivery room. While not an expert, she had some experience assisting Rebecca and Amelia with their childbirths. However, as the situation worsened, she felt helpless.
The midwife attempted to manually reposition the baby, but Viola's agonizing cries echoed through the room. Tara watched in horror, her heart pounding. "Is this really going to help?"
Despite the midwife's experience, Viola's condition worsened. As the baby refused to turn, the pain intensified. This wasn't a viable solution, so the physician decided to increase the dosage of the labor-inducing medication.
After the increased dosage, progress was finally made. The cervix slowly began to dilate. Within half an hour, it was nearly fully dilated, signaling the baby's imminent arrival. However, the baby remained breech, putting it at risk. With the prolonged rupture of the membranes, there was a serious risk of fetal asphyxiation.
Viola was nearly exhausted. Fortunately, Amelia had previously given her Evergreen Pills. After taking one, she felt her energy gradually return.
Just as a sigh of relief escaped everyone, the midwife panicked, calling to the physician, "The bleeding is increasing! Only the baby's legs have appeared! What do we do?"
The physician sighed heavily and turned to Barrett. "If this continues, I fear for both mother and child. We need to summon Sebastian from Arcane Sanctum."
Barrett felt a wave of despair. "What? She just fell! Why is this so serious?"
The physician explained, "Madam Viola suffered a previous miscarriage, injuring her womb. This is causing excessive bleeding. If we can't get Sebastian, our only option is to perform an immediate delivery and administer hemostatic medicine. Otherwise, neither mother nor child will survive. You must decide."
Barrett trembled, his gaze fixed on the physician. "What did you say?"
Seeing Barrett's shock, the physician, assuming it was due to the grim prognosis, urged, "Sir, you must decide—either summon Sebastian or we deliver the baby immediately and use the hemostatic medicine."
Barrett took a deep breath, recalling Viola's unspoken past miscarriage, possibly involving Thomas's child. But lives were at stake; this wasn't the time for reflection.
He steeled himself. "Then, do as you say. We must save her."
The physician nodded. "Very well. Prepare hot water. I'll prepare the hemostatic medicine."
Just then, Viola's mother and sister-in-law arrived. Evelyn nearly fainted upon hearing about the hemostatic medicine. Zoey supported her, urging the physician to continue before turning to Barrett.
"What happened?"
