Chapter 905

The generals under Dominic's command arrived at the observation tower where Felix and Homer were staying, intending to discuss the situation. As they watched the worried, tanned-skinned generals speak of Fawnrun City, Felix and Homer felt a deep unease.

"It's absolutely true," one general said, his voice tinged with regret. "General Sullivan knew nothing of this. He was shot with an arrow; the physicians believed he wouldn't survive. He pulled through with sheer willpower, but was bedridden for nearly three months before he could walk again. His body has never been the same since. He's too frail to endure more strain."

"Exactly," another general agreed. "Commander Warren's mission to Fawnrun City was my suggestion. General Sullivan had no part in it. Take me back to the capital for questioning; I'll take full responsibility. If you want my head, you'll have it."

Yet another general spoke. "Generals Quinton and Larkin, you both served under Marshal Sinclair at the Southern Frontier. Honestly, is there no room for negotiation? What exactly does His Majesty plan to do? Give us a straight answer. If someone needs to take the blame, I will."

One after another, the generals insisted on taking the blame to protect Dominic.

Felix sighed helplessly. "Generals, General Larkin and I cannot make decisions. We're here to convey His Majesty's orders. Don't worry. The Hell Monarch will find a way to handle this."

"How can we not worry? This isn't the usual way royal edicts are delivered. You were sent to escort General Sullivan back to the capital. Otherwise, wouldn't a fast rider have delivered the edict?" General Igor asked, his eyes red and voice thick with emotion. "He's about to turn seventy! And he's still holding the fort at Victory Pass. He's dedicated his life to defending Starhaven's borders and protecting its people. We can't let his reputation be tarnished because of someone else's mistake!"

General Daryl, equally frustrated, added, "That's right! Commander Warren and the others were never our soldiers. If anyone should be held accountable, it should be Commander Warren or His Majesty himselfโ€”he sent them!"

Felix and Homer exchanged a darkening glance. They turned towards the door, hearing the footsteps of a Crown Guard soldier. Daryl's voice had been too loud; the soldier surely heard him.

Though unseen, Homer quickly ran outside to identify the eavesdropper.

General Steve snapped, "Daryl, be quiet!" Everyone, caught up in the moment, had forgotten the Crown Guard's presence.

Daryl, pale with embarrassment, quickly explained, "I didn't mean it that way, Generals Quinton and Larkin. I was anxious and spoke out of turn. Please don't be offended. We're deeply grateful for His Majesty's help in sending reinforcements during our crisis."

Felix, knowing they couldn't continue, firmly interjected, "You should all return now. His Majesty will make his judgment." He lowered his voice. "Enough. Go."

Daryl, realizing his mistake, turned pale and remained silent. The others exchanged uneasy glances, aware of the danger Daryl's words presented. Fear gripped them.

Igor took a deep breath. "Let's go. We shouldn't trouble the generals further. I'm sure the Hell Monarch will help General Sullivan."

One by one, the generals stood, wanting to plead further but fearing the consequences. They worried they'd only worsen the situation and fail to help Dominic.

Felix, controlling his anxiety, stood. "Take care!"

As they left, Felix rushed outside, just in time to see Homer return. "Who was it?" he asked.

"Kevin Ziegler," Homer replied.

"Law's cousin?"

"Yes. I was about to speak with him when Galen called him away."

Felix's expression darkened. This was a problem. Galen was the king's confidant. If Kevin told Galen what General Daryl said, the king would believe General Sullivan shared those sentiments, regardless of the truth.

Homer's face fell. "I know. He definitely heard it. Now, it's a matter of whether he'll tell Galen."

Felix nodded, his mind racing. "Galen and Kevin aren't from the Mystic Army. They were personal guards when the king was crown prince. They're very close."

Homer frowned. "This is troublesome."
