Chapter 906
That evening, Felix and Homer repeatedly attempted to speak privately with Kevin. However, Kevin remained constantly in Galen's company, and the two were inseparable. Despite their efforts to separate them, Galen remained attached to Kevin.
Finally, they waited until Kevin went to the toilet alone. Homer watched Galen while Felix stood guard outside the restroom, awaiting Kevin's return. Kevin, unaccustomed to the local food and water, remained inside for a considerable time. By the time he emerged, Felix was shivering from the cold.
The area was dimly lit. When Kevin stepped out, he saw a shadow and jumped in surprise. Recognizing Felix, he relaxed, saying, "Oh, it's you, General Quinton. You startled me."
Felix approached and was about to speak, but Kevin smiled and said, "If you can hold it in, why don't you wait a bit longer? Let the smell inside clear out."
Felix chuckled.
Addressing Kevin formally, Felix said, "I was waiting for you, Sentry Ziegler. There are a few things I want to discuss."
Kevin replied indifferently, "Don't say anything here. Let's talk inside. Aren't you cold?" He shivered slightly, his legs feeling numb as if ants were crawling on them.
Felix lowered his voice. "Sentry Ziegler, the generals who sought me out tonightโthey've served under General Sullivan for many years. Worried about him, they spoke out of turn. It was an honest mistake."
Kevin remained calm. "General Quinton, are you hoping I won't report this to His Majesty? If it were merely an innocent mistake, they wouldn't have shouted about it. I advise you not to interfere. Let them say what they want, and you mind your own business. As for me, I'll report as needed. Don't forget, this is the first official mission since your return. If it's not handled well, your future is as good as gone."
Felix felt a chill settle in his chest. He even changed his tone, attempting to appease Kevin by speaking familiarly. "Kevin, let's not bring up the past. Out of consideration for your cousin, Lawrence, just pretend you didn't hear that, alright? We're like brothers, aren't we? Anything can be talked through. Consider it a favor to Homer and meโwe'll owe you one."
"Don't try to use my cousin to pressure me." Kevin waved dismissively, raising his chin. "You must know the Crown Guard is now independent of the Mystic Army. We now have six units. Whether I become one of the captains depends on this mission's success. As you can see, there are twelve of us. It won't be easy to earn a spot."
Despite shivering, Felix stopped him. "Kevin, I know you respect General Sullivan, and I understand General Dylan spoke in the heat of the moment. But if General Sullivan is blamed, it would be unjust. General Dylan will also be punished."
Kevin replied, "General Dylan thought he could speak recklessly just because he's in Victory Pass. To say something so disrespectfulโif this isn't strict enough, something will happen next time." He pointed at Felix. "Don't follow me anymore, and don't say another word. If you do, I won't hesitate to include you in my report to His Majesty."
With that, he walked away.
Felix was worried. He wanted to chase after Kevin, but knew it was futile. He would have to wait until they were traveling again.
At least one thing was certain: Kevin hadn't told Galen. If he intended to claim credit for a report, he wouldn't have shared it.
After Dylan and the others left the observation pavilion, they were uneasy. They went directly to Dominic's residence. Dominic wasn't there, but when the young generals explained what happened, they were speechless.
Wyatt couldn't bring himself to scold them, knowing their actions stemmed from frustration. He, too, had always been outspoken.
Wallace sighed deeply. "General Dylan, you've not only harmed yourself but also endangered my father."
Dylan slapped himself in frustration, tears streaming down his face. "I'm sorryโฆ Why can't I control my mouth? I don't care if I die, but if this causes trouble for General Sullivan, I'll never atone for it, no matter how many times I die."
