Chapter 109: Vying for Control

In theory, both Easton and Ellis were their own bosses, but in reality, it was Eastonโ€™s money that was at stake. Unsure of their exact relationship, the butler looked to Easton for cues before responding to Ellis. Eastonโ€™s attention was entirely on Ellis; he didnโ€™t even notice the butler.

Hearing Ellisโ€™s demand, he instinctively grabbed her hand, intertwining their fingers. โ€œIโ€™ll come with you.โ€

โ€œNo way!โ€ Ellis snapped irritably. โ€œJust looking at you makes me want to puke, youโ€ฆโ€

She struggled fiercely but couldnโ€™t shake off Eastonโ€™s grip, so she reluctantly gave in. In the car, she sat as close to the window as possible, wanting to be as far from Easton as she could. Almost plastering herself against the car window, Ellis occasionally retched, refusing the bottled water he offered her and disdainfully tossing it aside. Eastonโ€™s lips pressed into a thin line. She was the only one who could despise him so openly and righteously.

โ€œDrink some water, itโ€™ll help your stomach,โ€ he said, seeing her dry heave again. He handed her another bottle and gently patted her back to comfort her.

Things had been slightly better, but the moment Easton moved closer, Ellis felt worse. She took the bottle of water and, in a fit of rage, smashed it against his chest. โ€œI donโ€™t need your help! Stop your pretentious act and back off!โ€

A little vomiting wasnโ€™t going to kill anyone. Not having been to the hospital yet to confirm she wasnโ€™t pregnant, she was extremely agitated. Couldnโ€™t this scumbag just leave her alone instead of disgustingly crowding her? The bottled water weighed 500 ml, and with all her strength, she threw it at him, hitting his arm. Easton grimaced in pain, clutching his injured arm and frowning at her.

โ€œEllis, youโ€™re ungrateful!โ€

He had the nerve to accuse her of being ungrateful? Ellis scoffed disdainfully. Blame her all he wanted; as long as she played dumb, no one could bother her. She wasnโ€™t worried about him retaliating now because she had noticed somethingโ€”no matter how she hit him, he never hit back. At most, he would call her uncouth or threaten to warn her.

Unconsciously, she felt a newfound confidence. The source of this confidence wasnโ€™t clear, but she no longer felt any fear toward Easton, acting on her temper as she pleased.

Glancing at the space between them, until they reached the hospital, Easton didnโ€™t interact with Ellis. His lips remained tightly pressed, his gaze mostly on the scenery passing outside the window, his thoughts drifting. What if, at the hospital, the blood test showed Ellis was pregnant? What then?

Ellis had mentioned wanting children with him a few times, but each time, he had remained silent, unwilling to engage. Having children was all Ellisโ€™s wishful thinking. He had never considered having children with someone asโ€ฆ

Subconsciously, he was opposed to Ellis being pregnant, so he took great care with contraception, hoping to prevent it. But no precaution is foolproof. Their last encounter had been at the manor, where they hadnโ€™t had any contraceptives, and he hadnโ€™t managed to use any. The chances of Ellis being pregnant were quite high.

If a child was really on the way, letting Ellis get an abortion didnโ€™t seem right. Perhaps, as I am getting older, the idea of becoming a father is becoming more appealing? If Ellis couldnโ€™t be a good mother, isnโ€™t there still me as a father? My first child shouldnโ€™t just be medically erased. When the time came, the child would be kept, but what about Ellis after the birth?

Easton wasnโ€™t bothering him; the car remained silent, and Ellisโ€™s extra glances didnโ€™t even flick his way, so naturally, she was unaware of his convoluted thoughts.

As soon as the car stopped at the hospital entrance, she hurried inside to register and get a blood test. It seemed humans inherently feared sharp objects like needles. Ellis glanced at the syringe raised by the nurse, her expression freezing, and she turned her head away in fear, desperately trying to distract herself.

Before using the syringe to draw blood, the nurse soothingly said, โ€œDonโ€™t be afraid, itโ€™s just a little pinch.โ€ Her attempt to distract herself failed, and the pain of the needle piercing her skin made her shiver. The next moment, everything went dark as a large hand covered her eyes.

Her mind blanked for a few seconds before she realized it was Eastonโ€™s hand. He is so annoying! Couldnโ€™t he see he is the last person she wanted around? She swung her un-blood-drawn hand, knocking his hand away from her eyes, and then glared at him angrily. โ€œStop coming near me, will you? Back off!โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll remind you, youโ€™re still my wife, and there might be my child in your belly. Where should I go?โ€ Eastonโ€™s brows furrowed slightly. โ€œWith your attitude and temper, you wouldnโ€™t even make a decent mother.โ€
