Chapter 118: Tension at Hudson Group

After reaching a consensus, Carly and Maya quickly headed to the Hudson Group headquarters. Having been startled by that scumbag in the middle of the night, Ellis was physically drained and mentally strained, leading her to sleep so deeply the next day that she was practically in a coma. The butler, following Eastonโ€™s orders for the first time, was scheduled to deliver essentials to her, but no matter how much he knocked, Ellis didnโ€™t answer the door, and he even discovered it couldn't be opened from the outside.

By the afternoon, Ellis still hadn't opened the door, and there was no sign of movement. The butler was becoming increasingly anxious, fearing something dire might have happened to her or that she might have been considering something drastic. He hurriedly reported the situation to Easton over the phone.

When Easton received the call, his cold gaze swept over the two women in front of him. Carly and Maya looked at him with a mix of righteousness and indignation, trying to reason with him and appeal to his emotions to convince him to release Ellis.

โ€œItโ€™s just past two in the afternoon; if sheโ€™s not making any noise, sheโ€™s probably just sleeping. Donโ€™t knock anymore or call someone to pick the lock. Let her sleep it off; sheโ€™ll get up when sheโ€™s ready.โ€

With that, Easton ended the call abruptly. He didnโ€™t dare say more, but he knew Ellisโ€™s physical and mental state well enough. Originally, they had been speaking politely with Easton, but Mayaโ€™s expression changed after hearing his conversation on the phone. โ€œMr. Hudson, arenโ€™t you worried about Ellisโ€ฆ?โ€

Currently, it was unclear whether Easton had been overly aggressive toward Ellis or if she had been harmed in any way. Seeing how casually Easton instructed the person on the other end of the phone, Maya felt a surge of anger on Ellisโ€™s behalf.

โ€œWorried about what?โ€ Easton slowly set his phone down, meeting Mayaโ€™s gaze directly. โ€œDoes Ms. Maya not understand her place? Ellis is my wife; youโ€™re just a friend. My relationship with her is much closer than yours. Donโ€™t make unnecessary assumptions about things Iโ€™m not worried about.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m Ellisโ€™s attorney, and sheโ€ฆโ€

โ€œEnough!โ€ Easton glanced toward the door. โ€œI let you in here not to listen to pointless chatter but to tell you one last time. If you meddle in my and Ellisโ€™s affairs again, youโ€™ll pay a severe price.โ€

As someone who had already paid such a price, Carlyโ€™s expression tightened. โ€œEaston, if you wonโ€™t release Ellis, at least let her check in with me to confirm sheโ€™s safe.โ€

Maya was taken aback. โ€œMs. Carly, youโ€™re lowering your demands? Just making sure sheโ€™s alive is enough?โ€

โ€œWhen I have time, Iโ€™ll have her call you.โ€

This time, Eastonโ€™s gaze didnโ€™t wander toward the door. Carly understood the hidden meaning in his words and led Maya out.

Leaving without achieving their goal wasnโ€™t their style. As they stepped out of the Hudson Group building, Maya expressed her mild reproach. โ€œMs. Carly, Easton is confining Ellis, and we donโ€™t even know if heโ€™s hit her or mistreated her. Youโ€™re only asking for her to be alive; how much suffering and heartache must she endure?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t misunderstand.โ€ Carlyโ€™s concerns went beyond just Ellis being alive, but she knew very well that Easton wouldnโ€™t end the confinement anytime soon. She needed to find another way into Dynasty Estate to check on Ellisโ€™s current condition.

โ€œAh?โ€ Maya was puzzled. โ€œAnd then what?โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ll play it by ear.โ€ Carly made no promises to Maya, as both their lives were controlled by Easton. To avoid backlash, she said, โ€œDonโ€™t be too impulsive or worried; follow my lead.โ€

What those two did after disappearing and whether they followed his instructions didnโ€™t concern Easton. Handling two disobedient ants was easy for him; no need to stress. He worked until the evening, and as he watched the fiery clouds at dusk, he remembered the call from the butler.

It was after six. Had Ellis gotten up? What was she doing? With her confined to the room, had she lashed out at the butler, the maids, or the bodyguards? Thinking this, Easton couldnโ€™t settle down to continue working and decided to leave work early.

Having driven for Easton for years, the chauffeur was used to not driving himself. As he took Easton away from the office at night, he habitually headed toward Azure Estate, where Easton had lived for the past three years and which had been his and Ellisโ€™s marital home. After Ellis moved out, Easton still resided there.

โ€œHead to Dynasty Estate.โ€

Not far into the drive, Eastonโ€™s cool voice suddenly directed from the back seat. For a moment, the driver didnโ€™t realize where Dynasty Estate was. The next moment, it clicked; he had been there yesterday, also visiting a hospital and a manor. With those scenes flashing through his mind, the driver didnโ€™t foolishly ask why; he simply accepted that Easton would now be staying at Dynasty Estate.

โ€œYes, Mr. Hudson.โ€

Checking the traffic, the driver adjusted the carโ€™s direction. Besides being slightly obsessive-compulsive, Easton disliked changing his residence without good reason.
