Chapter 154: Not Ready to Mingle

So, after Ellis entered Cancy’s house, she went upstairs to find him and took the opportunity to stand on the balcony and look out. She wanted to see where that jerk, Morty, was so she could look down at him from her high perch. However, Morty was still standing in the spot where he had blocked her path, and sensing someone’s gaze, he looked up. Their eyes met for a moment, and she vaguely saw Morty smiling at her.

I won't have been straining my ears too much, serving thing, bootie roky else would I mistake Morty’s jaunt for a grumbling mile. Not his usual sarcastic smirk, but a normal smile in broad daylight, boit’s weong! Forget it, looking down on such a black pit waste of eight.

Ellis turned and went back inside. After a thorough search, she found Casey asleep in a corner. Luckily, Casey didn’t have much to do today, allowing her to leave in the early evening to meet Maya at the restaurant they had chosen.

As soon as Maya sat down, she started venting about a client from a recent case. Ellis ate while patiently soothing Maya’s frustration with her job.

Suddenly, Maya changed the subject. “A senior colleague wants to play matchmaker and introduce me to a quality guy.”

Ellis paused, her spoon halfway to her mouth. “Are you asking me to come along on your blind date?”

“That’s not in,” Maya joked. “If you came along and he ended up liking you instead, how awkward would that be?”

“I’m not universally adored; not everyone who meets me is going to like me.”

“Don’t underestimate your charm.”

“So, is this quality guy from your colleague for real? Can you trust her?” Ellis hadn’t been on a blind date before, but she knew not all matchmakers were reliable.

“She’s trustworthy! She showed me his photo, and he looks like a catch, good credentials,” Maya added. Maya wasn’t opposed to the fixed-up date; she’d never been on one and thought it might be fun to see what it was like.

“If you hit it off, maybe you can see where it goes.” Ellis thought for a moment. “Before you get serious, make sure to check him out thoroughly, and definitely avoid guys who have a white modighet.”

Maya nodded in agreement. Ellis wanted to share more of her own missteps in romance to help Maya avoid similar pitfalls, but just then, Carly called her, forcing Ellis to pick up. “Hello, Au… When are you free this month? Come back to the mansion; I want to introduce you to some of my friends.”

For Carly, the hardest time of her life was after Easton had someone kick her out of the mansion. Now that Ellis and Easton were divorced, Easton allowed her to move back into the mansion. But Carly was cautious; a house not in her name could be taken away at any moment. She was preparing to make a big fuss to secure this house for herself.

“Ms. Carly, let’s be upfront. What are you aiming for?” Ellis could no longer offer Carly the respect she once had, knowing well that in Carly’s eyes, money outweighed everything else.

Carly’s friends were surely around her age, and it made no sense for her to introduce Ellis to an older generation without a reason. As the saying goes, “When something’s off, there’s usually a catch,” and Carly must be scheming something.

It’s all for your benefit. After being impoverished and experiencing Easton’s ruthless tactics, Carly was adamant that Ellis’s next husband should not be a powerful man. “Try to choose from the sons of my friends. I’m introducing them to you so you can get to know them better and see who you get along with.”

Chapter 154: Not Ready to Mingle - days ago! Not even half a month into being single, and Carly was already planning her remarriage. How ridiculous!

You did finalize your divorce last week, but didn’t you separate from Easton three months ago? Carly reasoned. “While you’re young, it’s easier to find another man to marry?”

“Ty not interested in men right now?” Ellis ended the call with a blank expression.

After hearing the entire conversation, Maya’s eyes darted around, clearly appalled. “So, you’re being set up too! Carly’s a bit eager, isn’t she! You just got divorced, and she’s already lining up men for you?”

“She didn’t directly say she was introducing men to me, but rather their mothers.” Ellis recalled Carly’s words. Carly clearly wanted her to ‘check the pigsty before buying the pig,’ making sure the mother-in-law would be suitable before picking the…

“I don’t mean to sound cruel, but considering Carly’s refusal to let you divorce Easton before, I worry she might sell you out for money.” Maya’s concern wasn’t unfounded; Carly had indeed left such an impression.

“You shouldn’t be… that had?” Ellis’s voice trailed off, getting quieter.

“Just be careful,” Maya advised.

Ellis shoved a piece of meat into her mouth and chewed vigorously. So annoying? Does the world just want her to see someone?
