Chapter 192: Firing Amelia
Of course. Ellis made sure to bring up Mortyโs dislike for photos separately, subtly expressing her dissatisfaction. From a work perspective, Morty was undoubtedly in a position of authority. Whenever something involved him, the team had to accommodate his preferences. They had nearly overstepped, but luckily, Morty didnโt make a fuss and even agreed to the photos in the end.
As soon as Ellis finished speaking, the Nexus Group liaison wasnโt too pleased eitherโnot with her, but with Tate Groupโs liaison. With a hint of irritation, they said, โI clearly mentioned Mr. Mortyโs preferences. If an executiveโs presence was required for corporate photos, his assistant could have stepped in.โ
With undeniable proof of their oversight, the Tate Group liaison had no room to deflect blame. They quickly apologized to both the Nexus Group representative and Ellis.
The apology brought up another question. Should they now have Mortyโs assistant take his place in the photos? Ellis thought it was unnecessary. Since Morty had already agreed, there was no need to complicate things further.
The Nexus Group liaison seemed hesitant, and Ellis understood why. They were worried about crossing one of Mortyโs boundaries. When they mentioned checking with Mortyโs assistant before making a final decision, she patiently waited.
Overall, it was Mortyโs assistant who came to see her. โMs. Harper, hello! Iโm Caleb Lane, Mr. Mortyโs assistant.โ
โNice to meet you.โ
After the brief exchange of pleasantries, Caleb got straight to the point. โSince Mr. Morty has agreed to the photos, thereโs no need for me to take his place. You can proceed as planned.โ
Based on what he said, plus Mortyโs confirmation, Ellis could finally rest assured about not changing plans. However, Caleb handed her his name card and tried to save her number in WhatsApp.
โMs. Harper, this is my name card, and my WhatsApp number is there. Please contact me directly if there are any problems in the future. This is to avoid any unnecessary miscommunications and errors.โ
Ellis did not hesitate to save each otherโs contact as it was for work purposes, which was beyond Calebโs expectations. He thought he would need to meet her a few times to get her number.
After all, the last time Caleb had accompanied Morty to a meeting at Tate Group, Ellis had outright refused to save Mortyโs number in front of everyone. Her tone hadnโt been particularly polite either, practically radiating a โthereโs no way in hell Iโm adding youโ vibe.
Something Morty couldnโt manage, she had pulled off effortlessly. That alone made Caleb unconsciously study Ellis with a bit more curiosity. He wondered what it was about her that made her so different.
From the way Morty spoke, it was clear he had known Ellis for quite some time. But while Ellis seemed to have little patience for him, Morty didnโt seem to mind at all.
Last time, Caleb had already been curious about Mortyโs relationship with Ellis. Now, he was even more intrigued because the way Morty treated Ellis was noticeably different from how he treated everyone else.
As Ellis finished saving Calebโs contact, she looked up only to find Caleb studying her with interest. Since she could easily tell what kind of look someone was giving her, and Calebโs gaze seemed friendly and without malice, Ellis pretended not to notice.
But his hesitant expression caught her off guard. When their eyes met, Caleb didnโt hold back. โMs. Harper, have you added Mr. Morty?โ
It would be awkward if he had managed to add Ellis on WhatsApp, but Morty still hadnโt.
Ellis was speechless. Memories she would rather forget came rushing backโฆ
โI added him a while ago,โ she admitted, tucking her phone away with slight awkwardness.

Chapter 192: Firing Amelia
Ellis timed everything precisely, ensuring the host took the stage and officially kicked off the ceremony. Meanwhile, she remained in the background to oversee the event.
Fortunately, aside from the last-minute hiccups before the start, everything else went smoothly. When the ceremony ended, she finally allowed herself to relaxโฆ Until she spotted Amelia sidling up to Morty, trying to cozy up to him.
Well, Mortyโs displeasure was obvious. Ever since Amelia had tried to set her up with a rich young man while also attempting to pry information about Morty through her, Ellis had developed a poor opinion of her. The way Amelia behaved was off.
But Morty clearly had no patience for her antics. Instead of acknowledging Amelia, he turned away and addressed Lois directly. โMadam Lois, this employee of yours has questionable intentions. I would suggest firing her. Otherwise, she will only bring trouble.โ
Amelia was shocked.
โMs. Harper.โ Lois did not immediately answer Morty. Instead, she addressed Ellis.
Ellis heard what Morty said, but before she could react, Lois called for her. Hence, she walked forward.
โInform the HR department to fire Amelia,โ Lois ordered.
โGot it, Madam Lois.โ Ellis didnโt find it strange why Lois followed Mortyโs suggestion to fire Amelia.
