Chapter 209: The Unwelcome Visitor

My ability to discern seemed to have diminished. Upon closer inspection, the young man couldnโ€™t possibly be the new flame his aunt had found for Ellis. The man was ordinary from head to toe, with nothing of value on him, and his appearance was so plain that he would disappear in a crowd at a glance. Clearly, his financial status was that of an average person, and his appearance didnโ€™t match Ellisโ€™s aesthetic tastes.

Five years had passed since Ellis and I had been together. During that time, Ellis had repeatedly expressed her taste in men to me, saying that she liked the way I looked. It wasnโ€™t narcissism; I had always known that my looks were superior. Given the manโ€™s unimpressive appearance, even if he were a mysterious, inconspicuous billionaire, Ellis wouldnโ€™t stoop to tolerating him, let alone rushing to get close enough to spend the night or live with him.

For some reason, the thought of Ellis being with another man, doing the things she had done with me, made me feel an unprecedented sense of irritation. Now, there was even a hint of murderous intent. I wanted to make the man who was with her disappear from the world, bury him in hell, and make him suffer endlessly, never to be reborn again.

Suddenly, his phone rang. Easton pulled over to the side of the road and swiped to answer it. When the boss, Easton, gave an order, it had to be carried out as quickly as possible. Thus, the person in charge of investigating Ellisโ€™s latest address had found it in less than half an hour and called Easton.

As soon as the call was connected, the person immediately said, โ€œMr. Hudson, Mrs. Hudson is staying at Serenity Estate, Building A, 11th floor, with her close friend.โ€ Upon receiving Ellisโ€™s latest address and hearing the term โ€œclose friend,โ€ Easton pursed his lips. โ€œIs that close friend, Maya?โ€ Among Ellisโ€™s friends and relatives, the only person she was close enough to live with was Maya; there were no others.

โ€œYes, Mr. Hudson.โ€ Hearing the confirmation, Eastonโ€™s eyebrows furrowed slightly. During the voice call earlier, Maya had made it sound like she and Ellis didnโ€™t live together.

In Serenity Estate, Maya had been lying in bed, ready to sleep, when a call from a client woke her up. Choosing to be a lawyer meant that overtime was a regular occurrence. Reluctantly, she crawled out of her comfortable bed and trudged into the study to work. The study was currently shared by the two of them. She carefully moved Ellisโ€™s laptop to the side and placed her own on the desk.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Maya was stunned for a moment. For absolute security, the apartment that Maya had rented had a private elevator that required facial recognition or a key card to access, and it only went to her floor. I was working late, and Ellis was asleep. Who could be ringing the doorbell? Who was there?

Maya temporarily put aside her work and went to the living room. Before opening the door, she naturally checked the video doorbell screen to see who was outside. Before her eyes fully focused on the screen, the face that appeared was somewhat startling. When she clearly saw that the person standing outside was Easton, it became downright terrifying.

Maya rushed into Ellisโ€™s room and shook her awake. โ€œEllis, wake up! Something serious has happened!โ€

Hearing Mayaโ€™s voice disturbing her sleep, Ellis suppressed her irritation, rubbed her blurry eyes, and weakly asked, โ€œWhat serious thing? Did the sky fall or did the ground collapse?โ€

โ€œSomething scarier than that!โ€ Maya pointed to the front door. โ€œEaston is here, standing at the door!โ€

โ€œ!!!โ€ Almost instantly, Ellisโ€™s drowsiness vanished. Her eyes widened in disbelief. โ€œWho is here?โ€

โ€œEastonโ€™s here, just standing outside the door!โ€ Maya repeated.

โ€œWhat is he doing here?โ€ Ellis sat up. โ€œWhich door?โ€ She didnโ€™t see Easton at her bedroom door. At their previous place, the door and lock had been practically useless, like Eastonโ€™s backyard. He could come and go as he pleased, which had infuriated her. I hadnโ€™t even lived in this new place for long. How had he found her again? This scumbag just wouldnโ€™t stop!

The front door outside. He just rang the bell. Maya put her hands on Ellisโ€™s shoulders and spoke seriously, โ€œAre you fully awake now? Your ex-husband, who used to sneak into your house late at night, is here again. Do you think heโ€™s up to no good? Should we call the police?โ€

โ€œUp to no good?โ€ Ellis thought about it based on past experiences. โ€œProbably not.โ€ Every time he had come to my place, it had been for some inexplicable reason, but he had never meant to harm her. But still, his behavior was completely unbearable, and I often felt like slapping him.

โ€œAre you still half asleep?โ€ Maya cupped Ellisโ€™s face and shook her head gently a few times. โ€œShould we call the police or not?โ€

โ€œLetโ€™s see if he can open the door first.โ€ With that, Ellis got out of bed, put on a coat, and went to check the front door.
