Chapter 254: Easton Flew to Averton
To leave her chaotic life behind, she had already flown to Averton. Easton should be smart enough to leave her alone.
Easton had expected Ellis to hang up on him. But he had a second planโhe sent the message heโd drafted the moment she hung up.
After he sent the message, time went by. He didnโt get a reply even after an hour. He had thought about her reaction after seeing his text, but he hadnโt anticipated that she wouldnโt reply. Did she see the text? Disappointment filled his heart, then anxiety followed. He was frustrated, looking out at the darkness until dawn came.
After a sleepless night, Easton didnโt feel tired. His mind remained awake and alert. He couldnโt stop himself from wanting to see Ellis and ask her face-to-face. But she was in Averton. Reaching her wouldnโt take long, but it would still require a flight of over ten hours, almost a full day before he could stand in front of her again.
Suddenly, he was hit by a wave of madness, longing for the time before she ever mentioned divorce, when he never had to look for her because she was always by his side.
His emotions had been in turmoil for so long, and now, belatedly, he realized something. It wasnโt the insomnia that made him want to share a bed with Ellis. It wasnโt the lack of sleep that made him jealous at the thought of another man taking his place beside her. And it wasnโt the exhaustion that made him want to remarry her.
It wasโฆ Though unfamiliar, the feeling was undeniable. He did have feelings for Ellis. Through countless sleepless nights, through days and nights without her, he finally understood that he liked having her around. He wasnโt used to being alone after spending so much time in a world where they were always together.
And honestly, it was almost funny. Ellis was the type of woman he despisedโvain, scheming, someone who had clawed her way into his bed and worked tirelessly to become his wife, all for money. She was everything he looked down on.
And yet, he had fallen for her. He had always believed he didnโt need love. But the feelings he had for her were undeniably love. Even if he refused to admit it, he simply couldnโt let go of Ellis. Otherwise, how could he explain why he kept wanting to find her, to see her? Why he couldnโt suppress the jealousy and possessiveness that surged through him the moment he saw, or even suspected, that she had someone new?
The feelings he couldnโt quite figure out finally became clear as the day brightened. He couldnโt help but book a flight to Averton.
Ellis, who had no idea her ex-husband was coming, was having a lovely dinner after walking around town during the day. She was trying to get rid of the disgust in her heart after she saw Eastonโs text. Then, she went back to her hotel.
After all, she wasnโt in her home country; there was some work she couldnโt manage. Hence, her workload was reduced.
The next day, the driver sent Casey and her to the training institution, and then to some tourist spots. She had fun until night fell. As she went back to her hotel, she saw a familiar figure in front of her room, someone she hadnโt expected.
The fact that Easton showed up on the other side of the globe so suddenly scared her. The scariest thing was, he was holding a bouquet of flowers.
After all, she was still young, and it hadnโt been long since her divorce from Easton. She remembered their five years together clearly. Every detail of how they interacted, every instance of whether Easton had ever taken the initiative to send her flowers. He could swipe his card as much as she wanted, and he never cared how much she spent. But he had never truly put effort into their relationship. He never surprised her. Flowers and gifts were rare. Sometimes, she longed to celebrate a meaningful occasion, and after pestering him about it hundreds of times, he would finally buy her flowers or a gift just to shut her up so she wouldnโt bother him anymore.
So when he had asked Maya to deliver that diamond crown to her, she had already found it baffling. And now, after saying he wanted to remarry her, he had actually traveled across the world to Averton, standing there with a bouquet of flowers, waiting for her.
Compared to the past, it was almost ironic. Though she felt disgusted, Ellis didnโt slow her steps. She met her ex-husbandโs gaze, which seemed to hold a faint glimmer.
โIโve been waiting for youโฆโ
After confirming that he wanted a remarriage, he was happy to see Ellis walking toward him. Before he could finish speaking, Ellis took the flowers from him.
The bouquet was meant for her, and Easton didnโt mind her approach. On the contrary, he felt a moment of joy. That joy lasted no more than three seconds before a sharp sting spread across his face. His eyes instinctively shut for a brief moment. When he reopened them, the bouquet had already fallen to the ground. Ellis stood before him, her expression utterly devoid of emotion.
โIโve told you so many times that youโre seriously annoying! Stop bothering me!โ
Ellis had no interest in figuring out why Easton suddenly wanted to remarry her. Just seeing him was enough to irritate her.
